I've been wanting to have some games using some mods.. (Mainly ones that speed up bulding in Epic/Marathon games... so that I can longer battles within an tech age without waiting so many turns to build a road)

But I find that I don't have access to many Races that I do in a normal game (Like 1/3 really)

And downloaded ones don't seem to work since patch...

Come to think of that is there anyway to determine which mods work after patch and which don't??...

I have a feeling I got into civ 5 too late and nobody is updating mods.

Moderator Action: Moved to the modding forum. The modders know probably best about it ;).

If a mod hasn't been updated since the date of the last big patch, it's a pretty good indication that it's no longer supported by its creator. But really, the best way to see if a mod is currently supported is to find its thread here on CivFanatics and see what people are saying about it. Most of the mods that add civs, for instance, broke in the March patch, so a lot of civs available through the in-game browser just won't work any more, but looking at the threads in Modpacks, Mod Components, and Projects should tell you which of these are still good.

There are also quite a few mods, like my own, that are ONLY available here and not through the in-game browser. So the selection of up-to-date mods is a little bit better than you might have thought.

Also, note that many mods aren't compatible with each other; you won't get any kind of error message when this happens. So if you've loaded up a ton of extra mods, chances are some are conflicting with each other; this doesn't mean the mods are out-of-date, just that you have to load fewer things at once.

Not quite. There are quite a few modders that have given up and switched back to Civ4, or moved on to something else. But there are two other explanations for what you're seeing:
1> The underlying game is still in quite a bit of flux. In Civ4, the game at release was a lot more stable than Civ5's was, so it's a lot of work keeping a Civ5 mod compatible with the latest patches. Even if the modder in question hasn't abandoned Civ5 entirely, they might lag a bit on this.
2> We haven't received the full development kit yet (specifically the DLL code). Without this, it's mostly impossible to make the kinds of mods that people REALLY want, so there aren't any Fall From Heaven-style total conversions available yet.

Okay thanks I'll take a look.

I was a bit sad to see all the races I purchased as well as all the races that are default aren't usable with mods... very few are.
