Ok this is the first time in a Civ game I can't figure out how to do something even after reading the book,I planted a spy in a enemy city,I went to the conduct espionage and all I get is the spy screen to place a spy or embassy..

Where is the screen where you can order a spy to do the espionage missions?

I have all tech needed to do this and the espionage advancement and the Intelligence Building..

Am I missing something or what? The civopedia says I have everything needed,I just can't find the screen or locate where it is to order my spy.

You must build the CIA first.

After, go to the city where the CIA is and right click. Choose Conduct espionnage.

After you have installed the Spy in an other civ you can go to their capital. You will see a Pentagon and if you have an embassy als a star on the rigth side of the Name of the capital.
If you click on it you can choose embassy or spy.

Have fun with your spies

Alternatively, click on the "E" button on the right edge of the info screen (small screen in lower right of the monitor that normally shows your unit information).

:)

And how come you need the CIA to use them? What? Were there no spies until the CIA? Durrrrrrr...

As you can tell I'm pretty disappointed with this part of the diplomacy in Civ.

Yes, espionage in Civ3 is almost useless, unfortunately. First of all, the prices you have to pay in order to perform missions are outreageously high. Number two, your chances of success are extremely low, even if you pay the highest price (for a mission with higher chance of success). That forces you to reload constantly trying to achieve the desired result, because you cannot pay twice for the mission (nobody has that much money).

And another thing that bothers me is that advanced espionage missions come too late in the game. During the most part, you can only investigate enemy cities. This is not fun. They could have implemented a system whereby an ancient spy would have a lesser chance of completing successfully the mission he was assigned for, while a modern spy would have better chances. That would make sense.

I REALLY hope that Firaxis changes espionage in Civ3 with the forthcoming Play the World pack.

P.S.: I know I can edit espionage costs and whatnot in the editor, but I would like them to fix these things anyway. It is hard to play MP games if everyone follows a different set of rules.

Espionage in Civ 3 is best used for getting other nations to declare war on you. It is vastly expensive and of dubious use.

I want to know if when you try to expose a civ's mole in your capital, if there is NO mole there, why is it considered a failure causing an international incident? :crazyeye:
