V1.29 patch disk error

Ive just installed the V1.29 patch for civ 3;

Each time I try to start the game, using the Disk, an error message pops up saying that the compuer is unable to read the disk.

Has anyone ever encountered this before, if so does anyone know how to resolve this?

I've read from so many of you in previous posts that this is a common problem, is it simply because the patch i downloaded from this site is for the US version and I have the UK version?

Have any patches "V 1.29" ever been written for the UK, it seems that a lot of other countries have this patch, but not for Engalnd.

Someone mentioned that you can change the compatibility of the software in the Properties of the main Program - I'm running Win XP pro andthere was no option for this - the closest was Win2K or NT 4/5, none worked.

If anyone has ever resolved this it would be good to hear from them,

Have just downloaded the Atari 1.29 patch and I'm again getting the "please insert civilization disk into CD drive".

Has anyone actually got the patch for a uk version. I've now tried the one from this site, Atari and from Civ3.com

Any ideas ?

That error is probably because of the way the copy protection system used interferes with the CD-ROM hardware. Your best bet is to try Atari technical support. If you can convince them that you have a genuine (legal) copy of the game, then they might send you a No-CD patch .
