How can I know the value of gold to upgrade units? Is it relative of production?

It's very embarassing, but I just remember two of them:
- Slinger to Archer: 45 gold
- Heavy Chariot to Knight: 180 gold.

All the others I just know at the moment... It's a precious information to get the amount of gold at the right time!
Is there a table, or link, or formula?

It is often a good idea to withhold the technology that unlock the upgrade so you can build and purchase a much cheaper unit and when upgrade that unit for a much reduced cost.

In standard speed, the gold cost is:
production cost difference between them * 1.5 + 10, align to 5
(That is why upgrading is far more efficient than producing or purchasing)
So spending your money on upgrades is a conversion rate of gold to production of a little more than 1.5 to 1.
Buying buildings is 3:1, quite a difference
It’s a shame we cannot quantify buying tiles in the same way.

Buildings/units are 4:1 by default (Monument costs 240 to buy, 60 to build). Faith buying by default is 2:1 to production (I just played as Indonesia and the Jong was 600 faith, but 300 production). And when you combine with the 50% discount on upgrades, you can really abuse the system by buying a ton of units right before you get the tech for the next one, and then upgrading them all at once with the discount card. For example, if you buy a horseman and then upgrade him at 50% discount, your Cavalry costs you 520 gold total. Compared to the 1320 cost of buying a Cavalry outright, you can get 2.5 times the army.

In fact, the rate 0.75 to 1 is more common in and after Mercenaries-Knight wave, by using professional army policy card.

:confused:Why 3:1? I remember all purchase costs are 4 times as much as prod costs. Are you talking about the democracy bonus in R&F (-25% purchase costs)?

Is this formula not be found here? :confused: Can't believe it.
It's similar to the district cost / gp yield of project / cost of project / trader cost:
BaseValue * ( 1 + (CostParameter% - 1) * GameProgress% )
BaseValue... no need to explain, just a value configured by game designers;
GameProgress = floor( 100 * max( finished tech/total tech, finished civic/total civic ) ), which means the highest percent progress of your tech tree or civic tree;
CostParameter is the final value percent scaler when the GameProgress reaches 100, which is also configured by game designers.

For buying city tiles, CostParameter = 500, BaseValue = 50 gold for the second ring, 75 gold for the third ring
So the full formula is 50(or 75) * ( 1 + 4 * GameProgress% ) (align to 5):)
