Is it possible to get the map seed from a saved game with a randomly generated map (for use in the Civ3 scenario editor)? I started a map last night, saved the game along the way, started another one (so the 4000 BC autosave isn't available), but I'd like to try starting the first one from scratch.

Use a utility like CivAssist II to open the save game file, and it will list all the information about the map, including the seed #.

does Vanilla have a "seed"?

I had never noticed this and wondered about this when I saw them appearing here.

Every map has a seed #. In vanilla and PTW, when you start a new game, you can't enter your seed # at the top like you can in Conquests, but every map has a seed. Use CivAssist II to open a save game, look at the world map, right click on it and select Properties. It lists the world seed there.
