Vanilla to Conquests

have been playing plain old Civ III and am in the middle of a great game that i want to finish out. however, i recently acquired Conquests and want to load it to take advantage of some of the upgrades.

my question is this: if i install Conquest, can i loap up my current game and it will play in Conquest?

the main advantage i want from Conquest is to be able to "select all" in a stack, or select groups with the shift-click. i am dead-sick of clicking and moving/attacking a stack of 15 artillery every turn...

Even in Conquests, you can't change patch mid-game. Vanilla to Conquests would be even worse.

In fact, if you try to load an old patch in conquests @ 4000 BC, your game sets itself on 2049 AD.

No, I'm sure you can load saves from Vanilla in Conquests. I played without any problem all my Vanilla 1.07 saves in Conquests.

@Elear: it might happen with patches, but not when going Vanilla-Conquests. I actually did this, so I am really sure.

Yes it works fine, the issue is you cannot load the game back into vanilla after it has been saved in C3C. I am doing it right now and have done it lots of tiems.

not to sound like a baby, but clicking and moving individual units when you have dozens and dozens of them is so tedious and time-consuming.

now...if anyone could give me advice as to how to stop staying up till 2 in the morning and being a zombie the next day...that would be great. ALSO, does anyone have ideas how to keep the wife happy when you spend hours "playing that stupid game"...?

The patch issue is different. In C3C they changed some of the things keep in the save. When they removed radio, it meant prior saves would no longer work. Things like that are common with patches.

IOW you cannot always apply a patch and use a prior save. You can in fact load a C3 or PTW save into C3C. At least as long as they are all patch to the last patch.

Do note that some Pedia stuff reflects C3C and not the vanilla. As to playing late, can't help you. As to wife/GF or any other interested party, you have two choices.

1- ingore them and accept the consequences
2- keep them happy with bribes

I use use both with varing effects.

I'd be tickled if someone could give me advice on stopping @ 2am instead of 3 or 4.

As for your wife, just trade her in on a newer, more understanding model.

Not playing till 2 am... well, that's easy! play till 4 am!! ha ha ha.

it does get better, with time. After about a year, now, I can go to bed whenever I want to!!

about wife... regale her with stories about how much prettier she is than even joan! remind her that while you are playing this, you *aren't* watching football. try to get her addicted (warning - this could mean having to buy another computer!!) Tell her "it gets better in a few months, dear" Tell her "well, maybe if you tried the "cheerleader gets sent to the principal' thing I asked about..."

bear in mind, I am not married and have never been, so my advice may be... well, wrong

i did a 5AM a week or two ago. ugh...it was bad the next day.
i just don't understand how the hours literally fly by when i am playing this game. it is surreal. the game is like crack...and i love it.

i would love for her to play it too...and would happily buy her a comp. however, comp games are not her thing. as for the other suggestions, i am not optimistic they will work, though i appreciate your input!!

hopefully she can hold out for the year...

i can imagine. i get up no later than 5 everyday, and i have been pulling at least post-midnighter's for the past couple of weeks, extra on weekends. i am ready to pass out during the day, and my wife hates it. i figure i'll ease up when the time is right. in the meantime, i need my fix.

But that's what makes the game so "enjoyable"

Nothing I've tried has satisfied my wife. She's (furious) with me when I'm up late on the weekends.

I've had to laugh at this. The number of times Mrs Scratcher has gone up to bed only for me to say "Just give me five minutes, and then I'll come to bed." and then I end up trying to quietly slip into bed at 4am (usually failing miserably!!).

And so it happens every weekend....

oh my gosh that is IDENTICAL to most nights at my house. i say, "let me just finish up this turn" or "let me get to a good stopping point". the thing is...i have every intention of doing just that. never works though.

that is the worst feeling when you finally go to bed at those late hours...cause you know you gotta get up for work in a few short hours.
