When I tried playing "EARTH" last nite (King difficulty, 7 civs), none of my countries were able to produce more than 1 gold coin, and none of them were able to produce even one light bulb unless I set the tax to nearly 0%. On top of that, none of my countries were able to get over city size of 5.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I have tons of "trade arrows" in some of those countries but still I only make one gold coin max even with 100% tax.

Thanks.

With "countries", do you mean cities? What government do you have? How much corruption do you have in your cities? Did you have enough food for your cities to grow above size 5?

yeah sorry, countries = cities....

Yeah I have enough food and blah blah blah.... I was playing all other civ games before, at lower difficulties and less civilizations and I never had this problem before.... I can't even develop my own technologies, and I lose tons of money every turn since each city only makes 1 gold coin. Someone please enlighten me.

Oh and my goverment is Despotism, and I have no idea how to check for corruption, but if my capital city (with a Palace) still only makes one gold coin then that means it's not about corruption.

I have also tried switching to Monarchy to see if anything improves, but apparently no. Still one gold coin per city and no light bulbs at all.

Funny thing is, I still survived for 2000 years.... it's pretty lame, however, to keep this up since I will eventually run out of money.... I'm already losing 20 gold coins per turn already and I only have a 300 gold coin stockpile....

Why don´t you post the savegame here!
We will take a look and tell you what´s going on if we can.
:D

Yep I'll do that.... just detached my HD out of my computer so I'll do it on Monday.... thanks in advance!!

I downloaded your game and I'm not surprised!

First of all you need to get in Monarchy and stay there until you get Republic or something. And you need to know why. In Despotism any square that produces three of something gets penalised down to two. So irrigation has no effect on grassland in Despotism! And sea squares only produces two arrows instead of three.

Then you need to realise where the gold comes from: trade arrows. You DON'T have tons of trade arrows at all. And this is hardly surprsing because you haven't built your cities near rivers or oceans and you haven't built lots of roads around them. For example, you have several size 6 cities with not a single road in their city area! Build settlers. Build roads all round.

You do have lots of corruption, even when you switch to monarchy. This is because your cities are too far apart and (in the weaker forms of government) corruption gets worse the further away you are from the capital. And you don't have a capital! I presume your original capital was captured or you sold the palace you automatically start out with. (I can't see any city with a palace anywhere.) You need to build a palace NOW! And you should build it in a place where you have a bunch of cities like PARIS. Do this AND change to Monarchy and straightaway you'll see you break even. (Hit F5 to get the trade report before and after and you'll see what I mean.) Then build roads around all your cities and you'll start making money.

Hi,

Thanks for pointing out to me the fact that I don't have a palace. I think that's the main reason why I don't make no money. But to my surprise, I believe the save file I attached already has 95% of the cities built with roads everywhere around them, and even City "0" has a tons of trade arrows with its gold mine, yet I still only make one gold coin. This proves that it's gotta be the palace. Thanks for spotting that. I have no freaking idea why da hell I don't have a palace. I don't recall losing any of the settlers I had from the start....

Oh SHlT, now I remembered.... my capital was captured by a barbarian at the very start.... no wonder.... crap so I wasted all this time for nothing....

I just have to say thanx. I just looked at an old game with rampant corruption and this made me realize why. I got my palace taken. I hadn't thought of it til now. THanks guys :)
