How do I record my screen on my computer? I would prefer a way that records both the imput from my mic and records what is going on in my screen (I want to make several tutorials for several people at my school and being able to record verbal instructions will be so much easier than a list of written steps) Are there any good programs that will run with windows 7 64bit? The only thing I can find is adobe captivate. There has got to be an alternative. Thanks

CamStudio can do it but sometimes it doesnt work so well and its outdated. But it does do sound so long as theres a stereo mix option otherwise I found it pops up a bunch of errors.

So does FRAPS but its shareware and I cant remember if it does sound (IIRC theres an old freeware version floating around the internet somewhere).

I dont know about the 64-bit status of either of them though.

FRAPS only does it for DirectX/OpenGL output. If you're trying to record a video game then its a great choice since it can also pick up sound output from your speakers. (The so-called What-U-Hear)

As for the 64-bit part, any 32 bit program will run just fine on W7x64.

I suggest hunting on sourceforge or freshmeat. You might find something.

I want to record how to videos on stuff you can do in Word, excel, and outlook to make student's lives easier. I've had several teachers express an intrest in what I have to say but I have no good way of demonstrating this, as you know, screen shots can only do so much. I would also like to be able to make video's on games and stuff, but that's a bonus.

The aforementioned (is that the right word?) CamStudio issues I had were usually only with games, for what youre doing it oughta work fine. You may have to mess around with the codecs until you find one that looks OK though. I think CamStudio has an option to record from the microphone. I dont have it installed at the moment so I cant check.

FRAPS would be better for games Id think.
