Hi,

Just bought CIV 4 and realised that you need 64MB on the Video Card as a minimum. We only have a GeForce2 Go 200 32MB card in our laptop. CIV 3 works fine, Is there any point in trying version 4 with this card?

Also, I live in Australia and I can't find CIV 4 on CD-ROM anywhere, looks like only the DVD verison has been released here. Any info/help would be appreciated.

Hi Fergal

Welcome to CivFanatics:)

If you post your dxdiag we can have a look at your system as a whole and see if there is anything that may help

Start Button - click- select run - type dxdiag - press enter - wait a min - select "save all information" - remember where you saved it - then post as an attachment using the 'go advanced' button below

Thanks Zy,

Will run that program when I get home and post the results tomorrow.

Okie Doke

The graphics setup will not run it - but the dxdiag will help to see if we can spot something you may be able to do to rectify that

I believe Australia - like UK - only had DVD versions sent out

I'm running CivIV on a Radeon 7200 -- that's only got 32MB of video RAM. It's on the lowest graphic settings, and does drag at times.
It's a desktop, by the way, not a lappy, which could make all the difference.
1.4 GhzAthlon, WinXP sp2, 768MB RAM

The laptop spec is attached. I think we may have to upgrade the laptop because:

1. Video is 32 MB
2. USB in not USB 2
3. Does not have DVD drive
4. I want to get a new one anyway....

Thanks for your help.

You would struggle to get that one up to speed, so I would go for a new one ... especially as you are ready to do o anyway.

If you need help on a new beastie - post again here with the spec and forum members will post their views / suggestions etc - always good to get second opinions.

Dont take the minimum spec - you will hit trouble in months. Mid Range beastie / mid range card / 1Gb RAM - and you would be fine.

Does anyone know if the "nVidia GeForce FX 5200 128 MB Video Card" woudl work with this game? I have a somewhat older system and think it might be worth purchasing a new card and getting the RAM up to specs.

Hmm, I had that card but I upgraded it. It couldn't cope with the game and it got progressively slower. I don't know if getting one with 256mb will help but the FX5200 isn't a good 3D card for this game. Sure, it will work to some degree. A upgrade is a upgrade although I think you might be best getting another card instead of a FX. Depends on how much money you are willing to spend and what your motherboard can handle - I would recommend a GeForce 6 series card.

im looking to buy a new laptop with this chipset.

ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200M graphics with from 64MB to 128MB of shared memory (dynamically allocated)

i know this will work but will it work fine? how well will it run the game?

and if it wont run good at all what kind of chipset min will. if i have to spend over 600 on a new laptop that can run ganes i may as well just forget about it and get a 360. its crazy how many brand new computers cannot run this game.
