It would be unwise to found next to it. How about starting a new game? If not then move the settler after using the worker to see more land.

I'd probably send my worker on that mountain in the SW. There's at least one other wheat, aswell as grassland and a river, in that direction ; if you move your settler three squares to the south-west, you should have be adjacent to a river with three wheats within your city radius after the first cultural expansion (10 culture, ie 10 turns with palace).

Move worker to the SW mountain. Settler should probably go 2 south to the river, since 2 wheat are enough for a 4 turn settler factory.

2 squares SW is enough.
Most probably, I'd set up a 4-turn despotism factory there by mining both wheats. That would give you +5 fpt, city on the river so no need for 'duct, you might have to MM if you get BGs, forests or other 2-shield tiles in the city radius.

If this is continents or pangea and you have a good chance of trading for pottery, start research towards the republic slingshot by researching writing. Otherwise, do pottery off the bat, then writing.
Unless there's lots of barbs or really little land available (like 'pelago 80% water), I'd build worker-->warrior-->granary to get the settler factory up asap.

This start should definitly give you a nice shot of winning a regent game and should not be restarted unless you feel it's a too good start on regent ;)

Lucky start, besides the three-turn hike for your settler. The dye was a bonus here, and should lead to a good score as well (via happy citizens). Good fresh water sources, too!
I'll bet that's the stinkin' Inca to the south, too. If it is, give them an extra swat for me, will ya? :hammer:

It is them will do. :)

What is all of those worker actions???! I think i remember them in conquests, but i have complete now :( If anyone knows how to get them back in complete tell me because i would like to know. As for this thread, i would like to see more posts and see how your game ends up.

You mean all the extra buttons at the bottom? Just go into Preferences and click the button that says something like "Advanced Worker Actions".

And I'd also like to see how this game turns out. Ever thought of doing a story in the Stories and Tales forum?

Thanks I will put up some screen shots later. I am on a contient with Rome, Egypt, Inca, and the Dutch. I got into a war with the Inca and that triggered my GA due to a UU victory. While that war was on the Dutch invade. Both lost and no longer exist. My plans are to settle some nearby isalnds and got after Eygpt to my north with about 4 cities then Rome with only two cities I got about fifteen. I used Philosphy to get Repulic right before the wars started and I am in the middle ages at about 20 AD

Next time, mine the wheat since 3 wheats give enough bonus food, unless you plan to share some of the wheat tiles with adjacent cities. Being Maya gives you even less reason to irrigate.

The most effecient start is to get your settler factory going ASAP, so mine all the wheat and also mine enough grassland for a 4-turn settler factory before you start roading the dyes. Instead, regulate the luxury slider if you get happiness problems.

I think the best early build order might be an early extra worker to speed the granary as this is a high food/low shield start. An early settler as you did is fine also.

Anyway, it seems like you are having great progress. Even though getting great starting locations, like this one turned out to be, does make the game easier, is still looks like you need to try Monarch or Emperor even if you want a challenge.

I agree that all wheats should be mined. With an Agr civ, such as yours, you'll get 3(!) 4-turn settler factories (and a 4th one by the cow) in republic by mining all wheats and a couple of hills; irrigate the flood plains of course.

I'd settle 4 tiles SE with that first settler and pump a worker or two. The second settler could found NE E E from Chicken, by the sea. For both of these two cities, I'd chop a few forests, but unless you hit BG, you need to leave a forest for the on-growth citizen placement and then MM it to a mined grass. 3rd settler would go 2N and maybe another step so you don't need a granary there..

I also agree with Bingen on worker priorities and the early worker.

So did you trade or research pottery? Playing as the Maya with cultural links on and Inca on the same map, I'd surely gamble for writing straight off and trade for pottery.

I would've played a OCC next to the volcano... :mischief:

lol chieftess
