War elephants.. am i missing something?

I just noticed while i was at war with the Indians that they have war elephants that are 4.3.2. Ok, i go to the trusty civilopedia, and see that the elephants replace knights. Umm.. knights are 4.3.2 also. Am i missing something here? They seem like the same unit.

in essence they are the Indian's knights.Difference is they don't require any resources to build.

I got rid of that mess by requiring ivory to build War Elephants. Not like ivory is hard to find, doesn't run out to my knowledge either.

The Knights are 4 attack, 3 defence, 2 movement and require both Iron and Horses. The War Elephants are 4/3/2 also but require NO resources. Thats their advantage over the regular knight. Since you modded that and they no longer have that advantage, you will prolly have to change it so the War Elephant has some other advantage.

I gave them +1 defense now that you mention it (changed samurai to 5/3/1 if I remember right), but screw the no resource deal w/ a unit like that where the main resource needed is in the game. A War Elephant w/o the elephant is just a foot soldier.

more like archer or a dude with a lot of spears to throw then footman. They sat up there high on the elephants back, walked over anyone stupid enough to come close to the elephant, and if they didnt come close, they would get picked off by the arrows and spears that came flying towards them.
Only way to beat the war elephants was to fluke out and get under the elephants and then poke them with pointy stuff

UNDER??? I think I'd be pissing in my pants when that elephant falls or worse, I'll be crushed by it's foot before getting close to it's belly.

Alexander the Great didn't seem to mind ordering his troops into that predicament.

I think the plan was usually to get under the elephant and poke it in the testicles. Then the elephant would get really pissed and go out of control and would no longer be an advantage for either side.
