I just started my first ever game on Warlord difficulty. It goes all right for me, I tried to be peaceful this time but my neighbours just couldn't resist temptation to attack which caused them to be eliminated within fifty or so years. Meanwhile my civilization if growing. I met three other Civilizations so far. The Egyptians which whom I have made peace and established a trade route, but eventually they destroyed my only unit on their little, comparing to my, island. I have sent one sail with three units to show them who is the only true God for them. Failed badly and lost everything, sail included. Second civilization is Indians, seem to be quite peaceful for now. I have withdrawn all my military units from their island and shifted them to Egypt. I have also discovered Russians which are fourth power in the world, I'm the first of course. :king:
But they have deployed some units on my continent now so I have to concentrate on homeland defence right now, but still block Egypt`s expansion to neighbouring islands which are very tempting for me and I intend to send there two settlers to start my first colony.

I enclose on image with my current situation.

To me (newbie extraordinaire) your cities are far too separated. Then again, it seems like you have friendly neighbors. My games usually consist of unfriendly neighbors and 1 attack from Barbarians every turn!

Oh, and your boasting about "being God" - bad idea. The one true God "I AM" will shoot you down every time. "Being humble" is a good strategy. :)

Yes my cities are far from each other, but now they are all connected with road and there is a railway being build around the capital so I think it will be okay. I just didn't like the idea of establishing city near mountains. I already lost one city because it wouldn't grow so I just leave this area as it is, wild.
Bloody Russians managed to destroy one of my colony cities but I will pay them back! I have to watch out for the Indians which are now expanding with Triremes.
Then I will have to develop battleships because French and Zulu are almost as powerful as I am right now. Combined they will no doubt cause me some problems. Again it seems that ruling the seas on random map with medium islands is the way to win the game.

I didn't mean anything bad by using word God. Hope no one got offended.

I remember an episode of West Coast Chopper (a show where mechanics are challenged to build a new/weird car from another common car) where the crew boasted (they had to build a Hertz (mortician's vehicle) from a... Pinto?) about how they were going to beat death. The show was on the air for about a year and the crews never lost. They had to do the project in 1 week. Well, they kept boasting and kept acting like they were "God". That was the only crew to fail building their vehicle.

I wasn't offended in the least - just a tip on how to play Civ I. Humility is always a good strategy. :)

EDIT: I just remembered something. After I started learning how to play Civ I I was beating the AI in Chieftain. Well, I boasted about how "I BEAT AI, .: I AM!" The next game was my best Warlord game ever... which was deleted by silly me. :splat:
