Well, those last two suggestions are working magnificently! Guess who's the BIG dog now?

Code:
/===\    -\\
[   ]        |-|
[   ]        |--|
\===/        |---|
             |---|
/===\        |---|
[   ]        |--|
[   ]        |-|
\===/     _//

(man that's scary!)

Anyway, yes, it's ME! :goodjob: :king: :thumbsup: As of 40 AD I am the #1 largest civ on the map! Last game (03) I was last, and worked my way up to next to last when two nations were destroyed by other nations. I suspect now things will turn around. It would never have been possible without those two suggestions.

So my heart felt thanks go out to:
1)
Don't irrigate everything right away.
and
2)
So you use yourt first settler to build a road and irrigation before actually settling down to found your capital? You shouldn't do that. Build your capital right away, at most moving around one turn to a better spot.

These boards are the most awesomenessest ever anywhere!

:hatsoff: :rockon: :beer: :salute: :banana: :thanx: :trophy:

Looking good, but the six cities at the bottom of your small corner are too close to each other which might prevent them from growing fast but I doubt any of them will die out (disappear).

The most important thing now is to connect them all with road so you can deploy forces quickly and defend against barbarians. I also noticed the setting 0.5.5 which is a default setting. Try adjusting it at the start so you put as much resources into science as you can. I usually do 70-90%. When your shields start shrinking just put it back to 60%. Marketplace and banks should help you manager your finances.

I have a question now. What's your government? Is it still Despotism and if so why?
I myself usually play the whole game without even changing from Despotism. When ever I change to monarchy or democracy my nation is simply revolting and after several turns I have to revert back to Despotism. Of course during this few turns I loose a quarter or more of my army!

Well, I was using CxxC in CivIII and noticed that many of my tiles were restricted. I didn't like that. After not being able to make progress in CivIII I bought and started playing CivI. I then noticed that in the City Display the image of the city is actually a 5 by 5 space with the corners excluded. That's when I realized that the tiles available to any city is this "fat plus" 5x5 space. (See attached image.)

So I started building according to this scheme 5x5, building roads and irrigating everything at first. Then I was owned playing Chieftain. After a few more posts here, I was told to build closer and not use R and I so often so soon.

Now I am the largest civilization in the game. I have plenty of income and can even rush a wonder after it's been started. (I always rush the Great Library - free tech is ... priceless! : )

This is in my plans. First I get my cities going with Phalanx. Then I build roads and irrigation. Next I start processing Caravans to increase Trade so I will switch to a Trade favorable government - usually Republic. My income should rocket. This is my current scheme so far - and as you can see in my post, so far so good.

After playing Warlord a few time I did stick with Despotism and even had to switch back once. But with my new scheme I think I can go to Republic soon - once several Trade routes are established.

I learned that the best way to learn is to play, read, and post. CivFanatics is a phenomenon that I have never seen - people actually willing to help all kinds of newbies - even the horrible ME! :blush:

This! It's so true! I might just put it in my signature!

Edit:
Hey I'm just getting towards end of my game which I posted about in other topic. The one with Babylonians, Russians and Germans. These free civilizations were the only ones left out of seven of chieftain level. I destroyed Russians first, took me bit longer then I though it would but it was only because I had to deal with Babylonians at the same time. When Russians were crushed I could easily move my resources to deal with Babylonians, and so I did. :assimilate:

The only problem now was the German with one city of Berlin. I had trouble finding it "manually" by scouting every island, so I decided to use search city option and there it was. Not far from where my forces just landed.
Immediately after making contact they handed me over some papers to sign, which to be honest I didn't want to sign. So I refused and then they had no choice but to bribe me. 300 shields for nothing is good, wouldn't you agree? :)

I have them surrounded with one cannon and destroyer but there more on the way. I'm posting here an image and saves so you can check my cities and accomplishments. Not the best game but still win is a win! :king:

... Not the best game but still win is a win! :king:

Thanks Matek. I wasn't aware that the MAP files had to be saved with the SVE files. So I moved only my SVE to another folder and started a "Prince" level just to see how much harder it is. So I have the SVE files but no MAP files :faint: and so this game - the best Warlord I ever played is GONE just after I got started!!! :cry:

So for me this thread is D E A D :sad:

:deadhorse:

...sorry

MATEK's Warlord game:

NUMBER OF ENEMY AI: 8

SCORE: 1176

CONQUERED AREA: THE WORLD

If that's "just a win" then what's a good game to you??? ... conquering another player on a different computer?!? :think:
