First of all, I want to say hi for everyone. I got my Civ3&Conquests two months ago and I fell in love. I've been reading this forum and it has been really helpful. This is also my first posting here.

I have questions, though. When you are having many cities, do you keep some of them producing wealth all the time? Do you even touch the wealth button? When should I use it, and how often?

The only time i use wealth is when i need to increase my revenues. Since wealth converts shields to gold at a ration of 4 to 1 it is far more effective than tax collectors. On rare occasions, if i have already built all necessary city improvements and don't want to increase my army, i use wealth... it is always good to have some extra bucks saved up for later.

I'd much rather have another defensive or offensive unit than a few turns of wealth. I don't think I've ever used wealth, I used to, but now I just keep pumping out units.

I use wealth when I:

1. Don't need a larger army or any more improvements in that city

or

2. Need to do some quick research...i.e. turn research to 100% and still have money coming in.

I will go to wealth after I have economics and I am actually researching my own techs. Generally, it is cheaper to steal or buy techs on higher levels.

When I have lots of hopelessly corrupt cities (not even a courthouse and police station would help) I turn them on wealth.

Same, when I go for conquering the world, I don't bother improving the cities and just have them make wealth.

@esep: first post... Welcome! :thumbsup:

I generally build wealth only as I approach a space-race endgame. Corrupt cities are put to work building corruption fighting improvements (courts, police stations). Only when I have cities that are capable of building units so quickly that they could bury my economy do I build Wealth.

I hope that helps.

i build wealth if money is more important than other things (e.g. a lot of rushing or buying stuff of other techs) and there are no other major improvements to build. i will build commerce improvements over wealth

Same as Smellincoffee, when I have lots of hopelessly corrupt cities, I turn them on wealth, I will also turn the population into specialists.

Thank you for your replies, you were once again helpful and gave me more ideas.

hi
if i have lots of cities how do i set the production on wealth cos its tiresome to keep setting "wealth" to all the cities
can any 1 help plz

thats odd.. whenever I start a city on wealth, it continues until I change it to something else, and I don't have "build last unit" on (for good reason). imoe, are you running vanilla, PTW, or C3C?

thanks 4 all the help
but it still changes after every turn
i set the prefrences as u suggested but it bounces out after every turn
i suppose i shud just accept my fate :)

Try this: Either
open the city sceen of any city and hit <g> or
right-click on any city and select "Contact Governor" from the contextual menu.

This brings up the screen for your Governor settings. Now look out for something that says "Manage Production." Make sure you have:
"Manage Production [NO] in [All Cities]."

There is also a check-box that says something like "Default setting for new cities" Make sure this is checked.

At least this is how it looks in Vanilla. C3C should be the same, or at least similar in principle.
