What did your country discover/invent?

U.S.: Cotton Gin, Nuclear Bomb, Airplane, Lightbulb, Pizza, Submarine, and the Space Shuttle.

England – Football, cricket, Rugby and many other games.

Also, Didn’t Scotland invent Penicillin (Alexander Fleming) and TV (Baird) No doubt with a lot of English help ;)

United States Electricity, Flight (powered), Iron Clad, TCP/IP, Television

Since when did the US invent Television!? It was John Logie Baird who happens to be Scottish. We scots also invented the telephone, and penecillin :)

You just keep thinking that!

Also we Brits made the Jet engine...Another thing stolen by the Germans and Americans!

A few more Dutch ones:

- the microscope, invented by Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek in the early 17th century, revolutionizing biology
- the corporation, the United Eastindies Company being the first of its kind (also early 17th century) and as a corollary:
- the stock exchange - the Amsterdam exchange similarly going back to 1602.
- the concept of international law (arguably) by Hugo Grotius

and last but not least:

- the coffee shop :smoke:

edit- I take back the Pizza thing, my old sources appear to be wrong. Oh well, Deep Dish is better than the kind you made anyway.

My country stood up one morning and invented the mountains.

After some time, it blessed the world with a gloomy and sad believe called presbyterianism. Later followed some more practical and useful things like the quartz-watch, nescoffee, some chocalate sorts and a weird guy brubbling something about relativity theory.

The first post sais that communism is an Russian invention. Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels were germans.

And to h4ppy: That pizza remark..... sigh..

I also believe the submarine is Dutch, not 100% sure though.

Ole Rømer, a dane, discovered in 1676 the 'hesitance of light', What we today call the 'speed of light'.

On a side note the assyrians, who are sadly not with us anymore, discovered the almost precise distance to the moon around 3000 before christ.

It seems the TV and even the bike are claimed by different nations. my 2 cents: the first bike (but without pedals) was invented by Freiherr von Drais and the first real TV by someone ? Braun "Braunsche Röhre", both Germany
