What does "free upgrades" for Great General mean?

Hi,

I have tried to make sense from "free upgrades" (or "free promotions" as it called sometimes) feature of a unit led by Great General. Though, it seems that it doesn't get promotions without experience anyway.

it looks like it might be oversight and just spilled over from Civilization - where archers could be upgraded to infantry for money?

or does this feature actually work?

It's just a spillover. You'll notice that the City Garrison III promotion also adds a +10% bonus against melee units - despite the fact there are no melee units in the game. That is another spillover from Civ IV.

There are melee units!

Native Braves are considered melee units.

Also, colonists are considered melee units when wandering on map (with unit strenght of 2).

I have just recently been made aware of Civilization:Colonization. Is it a PC game or console?
I was sad when I discovered Civ: Revolution was a platform game. Sorta liked the PC style and do not have $300.00 bucks to spare for the playstation 3.
Any rumors about revolution coming out as a PC?

It's PC Senior.

As to Civ Rev, I wouldn't bother if you like the serious strategy of PC Civ, it's a very light and pretty version of Civ made, I think, to introduce console users to the general idea. I got bored of it very quickly and went back to real Civ.
