Who made it????? THE MAN!!! Mr Meier himself, the Great Sid. One of his first games - a really cool game where you played a pirate in the Caribbean in one of (I think) four time periods from about 1500- about 1800. You went around each port recruiting men, and chatting up the governor's daughter. and as you travelled you found ships which you could try to board. Simple concept but worked really well. There were two combat modes - ship to ship to cripple your target, then you boarded and had a sword fight with the captain -your success against him determined how your men did against his crew. You could also attack and plunder the ports, but that was harder.

I notice from the news on the front page that there may be good news in this area soon :goodjob: :) Let's hope so :king:

One of the best games ever made. It was done By Sid M. of Civilization fame.

The idea was that you started as a privateer for one of the nations with colonies in the Carribbean. You would then go around, recruiting sailors, buying supplys, talking to the governors, sailing around and attacking ships. You could also follow rumors of buried treasure, rescue your relatives, marry a Governor's daughter, and march your pirate army overland to attack cities and then sack them. When you boarded a ship or stormed a castle, you engaged in a sword fight, that affected the outcome of the battle.

The game covered many different aspects of being a pirate and had plenty of detail. Eventually you retired and your score was based on wealth, who you married, how wounded you were, and how many family members you rescued.

Absolutely one of the best games ever made.

Yeah, lets hope so. Pirates was one of the first games I ever got on my C64, and it is still one of my favourites to play after all these years (I thinks its around 15 years old now). The best version was on the Amiga, but PC gameplay is just as good.

It would be fantastic if Sid (and others) worked on a new version of this game.

The original Command and Conquer, X-Com, Star Wars Rebellion (being done www.swrebellion.com ), Dark Forces, more at eleven.

i would love to play a new version of the koei game uncharted waters 2: new horizons. the snes version of the game was so wonderful. you could be pirate, privateer, trader, explorer, anything. buy all kind of ships from hansa cog to venetian galley, there were even some giant japanese galley that could only be built if you invested a lot of money in a japanese harbour.

Of those mentioned, Elite most piques my interest, I loved that game!! Killing the bastard that snuffed dear ole dad was SATISFYING. It tooks months of play to build up my ship, and in the end, I had military lasers jutting from every hardpoint, the best shields and engines money could buy, enough cargo space to haul a planet's worth of sla...er migrant workers, and well, you get the idea.

I think someone needs to go back and take a long hard look at what was made for the C64, and reproduce nigh-on all of it for us. Most of the Epyx games simply shriek out for renewal, and who here would not love to sit their friends down and play a round of Caveman Ugh-lympics? I wouldn't mind seeing Dragonriders of Pern make a comeback, the mix of diplomacy, strategy, and action was really fun. Gunship was probably the only flight sim I'll ever love, well, other than Elite, anyway.

There really were a whole lot of great games made for the C64. Many of them were transferred to the PC platform, but were nowhere near as good.

They were some of my favourites at the time. I especially loved Summer Games and California Games. Epyx was probably only outdone by Microprose as the best game makers of that era IMHO.

Gunship was probably the only flight sim I really enjoyed until I got Wings! (by Cinemaware, another great game maker). I guess that Wings! wasn't a true flight sim, but it was a game I played for hours at a time. But that was before Civ1 came out.

Definately Rock 'n' Roll Racing for the SNES! Nothing needs to be changed, just start making it again

Hehe I have a demo of this which I used to play on the old 486. I loaded it onto the Pentium 3 not long ago and due to the heaps faster computer cycle clock thingy I got wasted within about 2 seconds  I agree about this game though :goodjob:
