OK, got myself sorted out, can build a thriving Nation and get myself able to declare Independence. I figure I can deal with anything the KING throws at me,

but what happens when I declare independence???????

Is there anyone to TRADE with????

If Yes, HOW and WHAT is/might be available ??????

Cause if I can't trade with anyone but Natives, I'd SHIFT my economy into a different mode just prior to declaring Independence!

Help, LINKS etc would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, shift economy from havanas and booze to muskets and ponies, maybe even Ships/Cannons but most importantly liberty bells. In fact once the Kings armies start pouring in - your expert weavers, tobacconists, planters and fur traders can be the first to be called to arms besides your veteran soldiers.

Also, I you chose to be a Monarchy, you can continue trade with Europe.

When you declare Independence you get to choose five Freedoms. One of these is 'Monarchy' and that allows you to continue to trade with Europe. So you can keep producing rum, cloth etc to sell and also buy more horses, guns and colonists from Europe after the WoI starts. Unfortunately you still have to pay tax :(

Awesomeguy beat me to it.

THANKS Freddy K

Had figured that WAR production would be the Priority.

Still looking for an answer regarding whether it is possible & practical to conduct ANY European TRADE once I declare Independence?

If YES, what are the mechanics?

OR
does my SILVER production and any Gold my Merchant Fleet/Wagons could generate through Native TRADE become superfluous?

AAHHHHH!

THANKS Awsomeguy and dalgo
that was what has been alluded to but never fully described in other POSTS I've read.

Are VETERANS and CANON still available?

Paying the TAX doesn't seem to be a problem
UNLESS there are BETTER things to spend GOLD and SILVER on?
Any suggestions/HINTS?

Yes vets and cannons will still be available.

If you are planning to trade after the declaration be aware that the seas will be full of hostile Man-o-Wars so you will have to run the blockade. You can prepare for that by setting up a couple of export ports close enough to the sea-lanes that your trading ships can reach and enter the sea-lane in the same turn, or else provide plenty of your own warships as escorts.

Probably will choose Elections, but will save & try it later for fun with promoted FAST Privateers & Merchants going for guns & Vets/Cannon to see how it goes as Blockade runners and privateers were the historical route. Was actually hoping I'd be able to trade with one of the other European powers for arms & Mercs.

Thanks for the help.
