Please forgive my asking, but are you a North American?
No.
Actually, I'm French, which is why I'm totally certain about the national anthem bit ;)

It's the song everyone sings on New Years. "Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?"

I didn't know New Years has a theme song... is that a British song?

The only thing I missed out of Civ I was restored for Civ III (and I think is still in Civ IV) -- the endgame screen that provides a chronology of major events that occured in the game, plus the map that shows your ever-expanding borders. I made my standard goal in Civ I to make sure the entire world was covered in my Civ's color. Never really made the effort to accomplish that in Civ III. I've mellowed some, and it's disturbing.

Yikes, see previous posts in this thread. You show as living in D.C., so this Dec. 31st put on any TV or radio station. The song you hear at midnight is the Auld Lang Syne. It also was featured in Forrest Gump at the New Years party for anyone who has seen that movie if that helps any.

I miss the F10 world map from Civ1.

Will Civ4 have a decent world map? That globe thingy we first saw in the E3 video, maybe? That would be so cool. ;)

I just looked it up on google and it's a Scottish song from the 1700's. To have that be the French Song on a civ game does seem suspect.

Having never heard the French national anthem, I couldn't say for sure, but is it possible that they have the same tune? I know that "God Save the King/Queen" (Britain) and "My Country 'tis of Thee" (US) have the same tunes.

No, La Marseillaise and Auld Lang Syne don't have the same tune.

See post #13 and lets safely assume that a Frenchman knows his national anthem "la Marseillaise". "Auld Lang Syne" came from Scotland in the 1700s as mentioned in post #19. I suppose it's possible they may sound alike I guess, but a better explanation was as post #19 & #20 suggested that the "Auld Lang Syne" was for the Celts, not the French.

From Civ I I loved when you had the “We Love the _____ Day” there was a cut scene to your cityscape, your people having a parade and Beethoven’s “Joyful Joyful” going off in the background.

From Civ II I laughed myself silly to check in on the advisors during a period of anarchy. They were all yelling and screaming and you couldn’t make out what they were saying because you couldn’t hear over Elvis’ “AAAAAAAAAAAA”

I Think Auld Lang Syne was probably for the Celts...
There was no Celts in Civ1, only in Civ2 ;)

I don't know if they are civ specific, but supposedly there is more music on this than nearly any game to date according to one preview.

do you think there is a way to mod the future age back in?

Hmmm... you have a point there....

Tried looking for the info on what music was in civilization but found nothing, would need to get the game running (which I cant do right now as I'm at work!!).

To be honest though, I dont remember Old Lang Syne in Civ I... I have a sneaky feeling it WAS in Colonization though.... hmmmm....

o_O

There was no future age. Aside from the Test of Time release, all epic Civ games stopped with "Modern" tech, and "future technologies" were just bonus points to the final score (or something). Test of Time was a bit of an abnormality.

Remember man, in Civ 1, when a city was captured, you'd see the victorious army marching through the city, with different uniforms from different eras. That was pure gold, miss that big time. Made annexing new cities even better.

This was something I missed as well, It was like rubbing salt into the wound. Loved watching it. Hurt when it happened to me though.

Aside from your army marching in a captured city I really really really liked the intro of the game and the intro music!! That intro is the classic Civ tune for me. Good thing they used it on the official CivIV site.

I am as big a Colonization junkie as there ever was, and I can't even recall whether it was or not. I have the CD-rom with me, but my personal laptop is in the shop. I'll check it out eventually, but by then I'll probably (read: hopefully) be too immersed in civ4.
