I think in defying AP resolutions your civ also loses the hammer bonus for religious buildings that are of the AP religion in addition to happiness hit to any cities that have the AP religion.
For defying UN resolutions it is unhappiness hit in all your cities.
Freedom from having to deal with it being passed, in case it is passed. Note that you cannot in game mechanics defy a resolution after it in case it has passed.
Really? I played a game where I was defying ap resolutions left and right. I didn't see an extra negative when I moused over leaders.
I had to defy at least 4 resolutions in my last game and it didn't seem (meaning I didn't see any reluctance to trade or unusual war declarations) to add any hostility.
It seems like when you defy a resolution - you should immediately be put in a state of war with anyone that voted yes to the resolution.
Thank god there's a Defy resolution- option.
One election was "Enviromentalism for global civic". I had 2 corporations and huge coastal income through trade with portugal. First I just pressed "no" and then they elected Envm. and my economy collapsed (had to keep science 10% to survive).
You can completely get away with it if your cities dont have the AP religion as was said. It makes theocracy a good option if you're playing continents and the AP is on the other side. (except the diplo hit as Ad Hoc said)
Let's face it - if you're defying that one, the world was going to end up hating your guts anyways, so you may as well scratch the diplo hit from defiance.
