What is the worst era for war?

I don't know how you guys can fight in ancient. I don't like to fight wars unless I have a massive adavntage, which is impossible to do in ancient for me anyway, because I like to build infastructure way too much.

I really only start to have the best army by industrial, but I can sometimes mop up in Middle ages with mass knights.

I love the AA warfare, and enjoy early Middle Ages war (esp if you can prevent the AI from having iron or saltpeter). I find that on deity the window for late Middle Ages war (ie cav) is just too small. Even if I'm keeping pace with the AI by the time my cavs are ready for action the AI has rifleman and is flying along the tech tree to infantry. By the end of the industrial there are simply too many units running around for me to even consider war.

I am most effective in middle industrial (after replaceable parts, and before tanks), in which I can usually defeat a much more powerful enemy, but at that point and beyond, wars really start to get quite tedious. This is one thing that needs to be addressed in CIV4 (it has been suggested in many forms).

I almost always have an AA war, which helps with the tech, and land expansion, but
I do relatively few medieval wars, only when the AI forces me into them, and I rarely do any other wars before replaceable parts, since I am usually even with or slightly behind in tech with the AI at that point on higher levels.

Maybe I should try doing more medieval wars just for the experiences. If I can get a moderate dogpile on a more powerful opponent, it may be fruitful.

The early industrial age when everyone has Infantry and the best attacker is also...Infantry is my least favourite war time.

Industrial combat is the best imo...
with an Infantry-(Cavalry)-Artillery combination as WW I.
Infantry-Tanks-Planes-Marines-Artillery-Ships combination as WW II.

I don't like slow medieval with trebuchets and MedInf against Pikes, and Kinight age is too short before muskets...
I personally hate huge modern wars with nukes, mech infantry (this unit does not exist!!!)... etc.

The era with the most war, and the most intense close battles, is definitely the industrial age. My least favourite to fight is the ancient age.

The ancient era: every second military unit is an unbuilt settler and while your warring, your neighbours expands rapdily around you, taking all the sweet spots!

My all-time favorite era to have a mass war of extermination is the Modern Ages. It's pretty easy if you have 20+ tanks/modern armors and 30+ artillery. Just bombard and roll though....

Interesting... I had no idea that the existence of mech. inf. was a closely guarded military secret. Well, I better not mention that it does exist, then... :p

Well, it exists, just not in that form. In the game that's a 'tank', not a group of infantry travelling with vehicles.

I try to have at least one modern Operation Overlord style invasion in every game. It's beautiful watching the enemy crumble under a combined air, sea and land invasion.

I like the Middle Ages best. I use the Ancient Age to build buildings and military units. I keep peace with my neighbors, bending to their demands of free money and resources, while unsuspectingly making a massive army to crush them all. :D

I try to get the Pikeman before everyone else so that I have an advantage.

Depends on what you mean by worst.

Era (or time) where you shouldn't declare war - There's none really, although I would have to say after turn 10-20, when the AI has spears, and the best unit is the warrior. But, there are warrior and archer rushes.

Least fun - Don't know. Maybe the modern era in vanilla and PTW since it's pretty much Modern Armor vs. Mech Inf? (i.e., Sword vs. Spear).

Most game breaking - Cavs. Once you get them, and artillery, you pretty much have the run of the place, especially if you're first to cavs. Knock out the AI's saltpeter and iron, and they're stuck with spears.

Ancient age is the most deadly age by far, since none of the civs have sturdy Defense, and a single warrior can take a city.

Really? On sensible difficulty levels?

The only really bad time for war is when infantry appear, as they are very strong defensively at the time. Attacking with cavalry makes for the easiest war, but cavalry only appears quite late on so war with other units is needed.
Ancient age war is cool but hard to master on higher difficulties.

If your small and don't have any resources, the Modern Era is worst, as the units require many resources & shields. I don't think the AI uses nukes unless they REALLY hate you or you use them first.
Example: I had a war for 20 turns with 3 different AI's on the Modern Era, and only after I used nukes, they used them.
