Of this list, the vanilla Aztecs. Not because they're the best, but because they're fun.

Never played a poor game with the Greeks.

I always liked Persia alot because of the Immortals. I also played my first real game as them.

Since the Ottomans aren't one of the choices, I didn't vote.

The Americans have a killer combo- Expanists and Industrious. They can quickly crank out products and expand over large tracks of territory.

Expansionist? That sucks, IMHO. Firstly, 'tribes are more lucrative' only good at the beginning of the game. 'Begin the game with a scout' also only good at the beginning of the game. I have a feeling you've just reviewed 'expansionist' for what it means in real life, and not in the game. Same for industrious.

Persians/Ottomans. Scientific and industrious is a very good combination. Scientific, no explanation needed there. Industrious, workers complete jobs twice as fast. Babylonian are not bad. Science for a start, and religious=culture=bigger influence

Suprised at the amount of people voting Greece. Commercial is another one of those weak traits. Firstly, extra commerce is only for cities and metropolises. Also, the lower corruption rate isn't THAT low.

Hmm, I have a feeling people are only looking at the traits, and thinking the effects in real-life is the same as in-game. Well, that not true. Commercial and expansionist suck. religious is OK. Militaristic, industrious and scientific are the best. Read the manual to discover the REAL effects.

The beginning of the game is the most important part. In fact, a good start almost guarantees a win. Also, Industrious is very powerful, since workers are the second most important unit in the game, behind settlers. Industrious does crank out units and buildings much faster. It is also best in the beginning. As I said, a good beginning means a won game.

EDIT: And Commercial is awesome. 25% decrease in corruption is more than you would think.

Agricultural - Pretty much considered the best trait by everyone except DocT. Since the most important thing in the beginning is food, and Agricultural makes your cities grow approximately 33% faster, it's awesome. Seafaring is basically map-dependant. Horrible on Pangaea, okay on continents, and great on archipelago.

The beginning of the game is the most crucial part. Never mind the barb camps. Getting a 2 mover right at the start means more contacts which means more trading partners. Alternately, you can scout out a potential victim for an archer rush much easier with Expansionist. Not useful on archipelago but good on all other maps.

Over the course of the game, Commercial knocks off dozens of turns for building and several turns for tech discovery. No other trait is so powerful for so long. At higher levels where you pay an OCN penalty, the extra production and commerce are vital.

Militaristic, industrious and scientific are the best. Read the manual to discover the REAL effects.

Militaristic is the weakest trait in C3C, IMHO. Barracks are already cheap. Walls are useless. In PTW and Vanilla, leaders could build wonders but in C3C this is not so. Once you get your first MGL, you can just build armies. The only thing I like about Militaristic is that you can get an archer rush going right away - assuming you can find a nearby target.

Industrious was too strong in PTW and Vanilla. Now it is nerfed in C3C with only a 50% worker increase. The extra production only starts with metros. It's a good trait but not awesome.

Likewise, Scientific is good but not great. The only benefit you get in the ancient age is the cheap library. The future of the game is usually determined by how the ancient era plays out.

Of course, the biggies in C3C are Agricultural and Seafaring. Both give you a big boost at the beginning and both provide benefits throught the entire game.

I love the greeks, and you can't go past the hoplite for cheap, good defence in your cities.

Greece starts off slower than industrious civs, but once the infrastructure is in place, Greece is hard to stop.

But it really rips my nighty when the AI declares war and initiates my GA before I hit republic...
