For the first time i played as Babylon and wow, the bowman is amazing. the archer unit stays around for a really long time in civ so having one that hits harder and does not need to be escorted is a huge bonus

I guess it would depend on what kind of strategy you are playing, since even the best unique units are a mainly era specific:

Early unit replacements (like the Quechua in Civ4) might dominate at the very beginning of the game but are quickly outdated. The Bowman is an exception in that the unit it replaces lasts longer and the nature of combat in Civ5 means it remains a superior defensive unit even after its early dominance has past.

Good middle game unique units provide a kind of 'golden age' in terms of military power. The Legion in Civ4 is a prime example of a unit that can dominate its era and provide a serious advantage to the player.

Late era units who may dominate over their regular versions, but come so late that even if they are built the game may already be decided by then.

I think Civ 5 has also created a 4th class, units that are not dominating or overpowered in their own era, but draw their key advantages from promotions that can be carried forward providing a much less time sensitive advantage. Minutemen are an example - sure they are an ok unique unit by themselves, but they really show their worth because their movement promotion is carried forward. Build and maintain enough Minutemen when you can and you'll have a superior army for the rest of the game.

Not to be rude, but I'm not sure there is a point to this poll. Its Keshik hands down. Nothing even comes close. While people may come up with reasons why a certain unit fits into a certain playstyle or situation, deep down we all know nothing touches the Keshik.

Have to agree with this. Will be interesting to see which UU's make it to the next poll, however; as I feel there are some better options on the first poll, based on how early they come.

I agree 110%

 Keshik

Naresuan's Elephant. I can't say it is MY personal favorite UU, as I seldom play Siam as an offensive civ... but it is my most hated UU, when I have to fight against it in the AI's hands. It is incredibly overpowered against all but spear units, which I never seem to have around when those damn elephants come in wave after wave. Other UU's I can deal with, but those elephants are just nasty.

I would have to agree with the comments regarding the Keshik - its simply a killer in the hands of a human player.

While I hate Naresauan's Elephants, it doesn't compare with the damage the Keshik does when it arrives in force.

I can't say as I've ever seen the Mongols use them wisely, and overpower ME with them. Maybe the dumb AI civs who couldn't defend to save their lives (literally), but when he throws them my way, I've never seen them be organized or use their talents wisely enough to bother me much. When the mongols declare war on me, it's like a vacation.

I went with the Bowman. As OP'ed as the Keshik can be, many of the strategies allowing total dominance would work with just about any chivalry UU. Must admit though I like the fact that there is actually cavalry out there that can REALLY move(+they are ranged!).

However, the bowman can really allow for a strong start. The Keshik may not come late, but with Bab you can eat Genghis before he ever gets to Keshiks(assuming he is your neighbor of course). Plus, Bowman(and Bab in general) really suits my Builder's style of play.

However, one of these days I really do intend to give a Mongol Domination win a shot!

i do really like em, but i voted for the hwacha because the AI can't handle naval combat anyway.

No Longbow on here. That is my favorite. Give me three and any city is mine without iron and without getting touched from three hexes away.
