What patch does my friend need

I took a screen shot of what I think is the version number. I have Civ 4 complete. I have a friend who bought civ4 vanilla (which is why I am giving the vanilla version number instead of the BtS version number) several years ago. What patch does he need to get so that we can do multiplayer? Thank you.
PS, I read the FAQ in site feedback but I am still not sure how to place a screen shot anywhere other than as a file attachment. Can I place a screen shot in the text itself? Thanks.

The Civ 4 shown in the screen shot is patched to 1.74 which is the latest patch.

Your friend will need to make sure that he is also patched to 1.74.

To put the screenshot in the text:

View the image after you have attached it and copy the location
Use the insert image button and paste in the location, that will add the appropriate IMG tags around the image location.

If we wanted to use the pitboss application to play, would he need to download that too or is it included with 1.74?

If you are hosting the game using pitboss then your friend will not need to run pitboss but just join your game. I haven't tried hosting a game myself, but I have joined one that someone else was hosting.
