I started 6 or 7 of new world scenarios and am playing 3 of them.

questions:

WHAT THE HEY? Im playing the Incas or Monty and there is lots of TUNDRA and ice caps?????

I rerolled one start because my starting location for Inca was heavily infested with TUNDRA and no hills or mountains nearby.

Yes I sent my settlers out to scout new locations so I could get some IRON but that took a lot of turns.. meanwhile Hiawatha has planted all his settlers and is growing rapidly.

The other what they hey? question regards Inca. The UB is the terrace farm but its really only good on hills next to mountains. Why in the world is the scenario coming up with maps that dont have any mountains close to the start?

Basically, all the games started for Inca derive no benefit from these farms because of the lack of appropriate terrain.

My Monty game has so much tundra around and no freekin forests ... so the jags are useless.

now i forget why I started this post ARRGGGGH.

What they HEY! With all the TUNDRA in a scenario with Incans and Aztecs? I dont know for sure but I dont think the Iroqouis ventured THAT far north.

Why so few hills with mountains? To deny the Inca's their unique abilities? Good thing I got lucky and found Cera Potosi and the Fountain of Youth. with my 2nd and 3rd settlers. I actually have the highest score right now with all the treasure trains. The fast heals from the fountain are helpining me keep the barbs at bay. Hiawatha's cities are already strong enough that am going to need catapults.. he has swords too. the rat!

Don't get frustrated man, give in to a game on highlands (selectable through mods) for the Inca (I recommend nothing bigger than standard and you'll get loads on mountains.)

Monty will have fun on one of the other mod map types that has loads of forest (can't remember the name right now). Cook the books a little bit in their flavour favour and enjoy the ride!

I will be trying a highlands map for the Incans just for the fun of having things stacked in their favor.

But I am trying to wint the New World Scenario with the new world civs and it just seems odd/wrong/off that the fractal generator used spawns so much useless terrain.

Ice cap and tundra? for a scenario featuring incans and aztecs? Really?

The lack of hills with nearby mtns that would make the incan farms I can chalk up to incredibly bad luck, even though I would think that some sort of mathmatical bias (aztecs/iroqois more forest jungle in the starting region and more hills with the requisite mtns nearby for the Incans) would be appropriate... <shrugs shoulders>

But again.. Ice cap and tundra taking up at least 20% of the map?

Ah, missed that in the post. Tried new world scenario once, got Monty with loads of forests and no tundra. Luck of the roll I suppose!

There's no shame in re-rolling. Civ is a long game. No sense in wasting 4-10 hours of your life milling the Incans around a barren tundra. That's why start bias is on by default. I have no issue with putting highlands on for Inca or wet (forests/jungles) on for Iroquois.

In fact, I re-roll even some very good starting positions just because after 10-20 turns I find the map to be blah. I like to play a game through that I find at least somewhat unique. That's why I love Spain...they all play out differently.

Yeah. Maybe I need to try that a little more. I do kinda hate rerolling because it gets tedious.

I loved playing Isabella in the scenario. Cranked out those ships and raced to china. ALong the way I found Cera Potosi and El Dorado. After getting all three china prizes I settled those WWs and built up a nice army to go put the locals off the map.

Did they nerf her UA at all? I haven't checked.

I would suggest trying the tectonics mod too. It provides a lot of mountain ranges like irl.
