What would cause Mt. Rushmore to not be built anymore?

I got a great engineer in 1984 AD and saw that the only two wonders it was possible to build with him were Mt. Rushmore and Wall Street.

I was already building Wall Street in another city and it would be done in 2 turns, so I figured I'll just have him build Mt. Rushmore.

However, I didn't want to build it in the city he spawned in, so I moved him over to a recently built border city to give it the wonder so that it gets some free culture, etc.

It takes 2 turns to move to the city. On the third turn, 1987 AD, I go to construct Mt. Rushmore and... it's not on the list any more! WHAT?

The only significant thing that happened between 1984 and 1987 was that I completed Wall Street in a completely different city.

I thought maybe this city just didn't have the requirement needed to build the wonder (I didn't think there was one), so I went back to the city he was "born" in (since I KNOW it was an option to build there) and it is also no longer on the list of build options.

Okay, I'm thinking another city must have somehow started building it (even though I never had it on anyone's queue)... I check every city - no one is building it.

WHERE DID IT GO??? :crazyeye:

Also, during this timespan, I did not acquire any more techs nor change my civics. Hmmmm....

Ah ha - I found it.

At the end of 1986 a Roman border city culture flipped into my control. It has a Mt. Rushmore, so I can't build another!!

What would have happened if I had built Mt. Rushmore in one of my cities and then got another one via flip? Would I get double the bonus? Or would one disappear?

Glad I took those extra turns to move the engineer instead of just building it where he spawned.

If you capture national wonder and you already have it, the captured one will be gone.

Today I learned you can capture national wonders.

I guess I should have noticed that at some point before.

One might think so, but I never noticed it either. Casts a different light on construction of national wonders, doesn't it?

Can you capture one? This example seems to be a culture flipped city. I can never ever remember capturing a city with a national wonder in it.

Good point.

I know if AI gives you a city the national wonder in it goes to you if you don't have one already.

I was told that you can't capture national wonders in BtS; Zeek, are you playing BtS or Vanilla?

In Vanilla (and I think Warlords), you could capture a NW that you didn't already have in one of your cities. (If you did, it got destroyed in the captured city.)

I have vanilla.

I think, like someone else said - you can capture it as long as you don't already have it.

Not completely related, but in this same game I've captured a city (militarily) and it still had the Academy (that a great scientist built) in it.

Yes, academies, military academies (Warlords & BtS), Scotland Yards(BtS), and settled GPs all stay when you capture a city.

Yeah, you just lose the culture bonus on the GP-built buildings.
