Hi civ fanatics,

I have started playing again after a longer break of maybe 6 months or so, and I?m wondering what the current state of reasonably fast deity domination victories is in the current patch? What's considered a fast win, what's considered a top tier speed win?

I'm currently trying to see how far down I can push it with gran colombia, while before my break i mainly used the ottomans to get around T150. Ottomans felt much more difficult now after the latest patches, it took me longer to win.
Then I switched to gran colombia and I can be somewhat faster, with now reaching T136, so I was wondering what the level of the experts is nowadays?

I'm not a very good player, so I assume the top cracks here can do it faster than ever, has the game gotten easier?

Standard size, deity, continents, all standard settings

I mostly play on pangea, so I don't know how much longer dom victories take on continents. At least on pangea I'd say anything sub 100/110 is a top speed. I haven't gone for any fast dom victories after the april patch so I don't know if the additional units make the game faster or slower. My fastest games were all with Hungary. The best was with Akkad (T78) but I have a few more between T80-90. I have also another 3 games around T90 with Gran Colombia, Chandragupta and Shaka.

Of course fast dom victories depend also a lot on RNG. Sometimes your neighbors will have walls by t40, other times you only see them after having conquered your 3rd neighbor.

And then there is Lautaro, which will usually add at least another 10-20 turns.

I also usually play without game modes, so not sure how much they change the winning times.

interesting, i think pangea should be quite a bit faster as it saves having to research cartography to get the damn armies to the other main continent. T78 is crazy though, I want to try pangea and see where my playstyle gets me.

How many turns does it take to move a standard melee character 1/2 way across a standard size map?

With general? Over water? Including the logistics card? A standard map I think is 60 tiles wide and so moving 2 tiles a turn it would take30 turns but I probably have the map width wrong.

I checked on the wiki. It says it is 84 wide x 54 tall. That is 42 to circumnavigate it but only 21 to cross half way it on a Pangea with no special bonuses and no hills. On a standard map you have to capture 8 capitols that are distributed around it. The actual Pangea is bit smaller because of the surrounding water. Yeah, it sounds tough to build an army and reach 8 capitols and defeat them within 100 turns. I would say that is an achievement.

I think Hungary might be able to do a sub 100 on continents. You just have to meet one city state on the other continent, suzerain it and first take a city without walls. Then buy a battering ram/siege tower and snowball from there.

Kupe might be another strong contender for sub 100.

The reality is you lose a lot of turns at the start before you war but make up for them with roads and great generals. Even things like levy help a lot.
I have never considered movement a limitation on sub 100, more about walls.
I misread the title, I thought this thread was about SV, for Dom a fast time would be T110 I imagine.

Just finished a quick game with Hungary. Got a T96 domination on continents. I had conquered my starting continent by T77 (4 civs) but made the mistake of trying to get Men-at-Arms before researching cartography, only to switch back to cartography halfway through it. I think going Iron working --> Cartography --> Apprenticeship is the way to go. With better play sub T90 should be possible, not sure if you can push it even further to sub T80 though.

Anything under 150 seems great to me especially on continents.

No modes, I'd choose Gran Columbia too, the movement and other bonuses are just so good on him and no need for certain things to happen. I've also seen some crazy stuff with Gaul rushing Man at Arms. Ofc Babylon has a variety of rush options and his free first building is so underrated, that free barracks is huge for getting the first general. I want the Ottomans to be better but they lack the early bonuses the other three have.

With Secret Societies or heroes on I'd go Hungary any day of the week. Owls gives extra envoys and levied troops are cheap to upgrade. With heroes on Himiko is a must have. Matthias is a monster with modes on.
