Whats the deal with resync.sav

I was playing an MP game last night with 1 human player and 4 AI players. We were playing on a LAN with <10ms ping times. We received the message telling us we are out of sync and should reload from resync.sav at least 3 times.

Any idea why I am receiving this message? I can't get much better ping times than on a LAN. What can I do to avoid the problem?

Also, if you can figure out there is a sync problem and are able to save the game, why not recover for me instead of making me restart.
 
I got this once while playing a random person, it would be pretty hard to restart that game, I think it is caused by the times or turns not being in sync, this causes it to restart but could probably be fixed by the game in ten seconds (if the programmers actually put this ability in).
