what's wrong with Firefox 3.5?

While I'm running it OK in Windows, it fails to use DNS to resolve domains in Linux.

Yep. Though it sounds to me like it will be a configuration problem with either Linux or FF rather than a bug. If other browsers work try using safe mode to disable any addons, and if no joy use safe mode to reset FF to it's defaults settings.

It depends: Is it a precompiled binary or did you compile it yourself?

I know my linux installation fails to resolve a few particular domains the whole time. Have you tried pinging those domains to determine it is a firefox problem? In the end I got a few people to get the IP addresses, then stored them in my resolv.conf

It has been officially released and it is awesome, since things are now so much faster. I was on occasions have trouble with 3/0, since it was using up so much hardware on the computer, making finger scrolling slow.
