I just finished a game where I played using my own name, and the civilization was called the Exes. I named each city after an ex-girlfriend (but don't worry, I kept them happy and allowed them to develop. Well, I did throw Angie Kramer to the barbarians on purpose. But then I bribed her back.)

I have this strong tendency towards naming my Empires ( kingdoms, whatnot ) after civilizations based in or around Anatolia ( Turkey ). The Byzantine Empire with Emperor Justinian is a distinct favorite, but the Seljuk or Ottoman Turks are also distinct favourites.

I like doing that! I take the greeks it's Pericles, Alexander the Great or Constantine XIII.
With the french I like Henri IV or Charles De Gaule.
Of course I change the title accordingly....
