When did you here about Civ?

Personally, I read about on reviews of Age of Empire (my Windows 98 SE came with mircosoft game demos) with talked how it was mix of "warcraft" and "civilization" (remember, this back in 2000, wher I was a newbie at... almost everthing computers ). I looked into these Civilization games, the latest then civ2, but then I heard that Civ3 was coming soon, so I waited till Christmas, and asked my dad as a Christmas preseint. I remember going to civ3.com and reading eveything about and think "wow...this sounds cool."

And guess what? I was !!!

I got the original Civilization as part of a demo CD along with a game called "Mantis" that involved giant cockroaches that tore people apart from the inside.

Well, I first found out about CivIII when I opened that present on Christmas morning of 2001. Funny thing how I expected it to be Flight Simulator 2002 and was ticked off until I played it. Oh, how I regret ever being mad that it was the game that it was under the wrapper.

I first heard of the Civilization series in fifth grade, when a few of my classmates often gathered around the classroom computer to play Civilization II - mostly the WWII scenario + cheating. I remember a lot of nuking in those games.

Ah, I've always dreamed of bringing CivIII to school and everybody crowding around and playing. However their was a certain rule where you couldn't bring your own disks and run them on the computers.

When I bought my first PC (well, when my parents bought it) 10+ years ago, so I was about 7, it came as part of the software package. I remember spending months not knowing any of the controls, because there was no manual, and not even knowing how to progress to the next turn, or anything at all about the game. Eventually I got the hang of it, and it just progressed from there.

I dated a Civ II addict. At first I thought it looked so complex I'd never get the hang of it. Bought Civ II anyway. Now, after Civ III, PTW, and C3C..."Hi, I'm ManOfMiracles and I'm a Civ addict."

My Cousin was fascinated with Civ. He bough Civ I, Civ II, and then Civ III.
Around that time, I was getting interested in Strategy games.
My Dad and Aunt talked about it on the phone, and I got Civ III as a Christmas present.

I started with Civ2 and I liked it A LOT.
It was so many years ago, I hardly remember how I got it.
I think I saw it at the (then dutyfree) shop at Heathrow airport, but I am not sure.

I read review about Civ 3 in gaming magazine.
It sounded cool so I tried demo.
Quickly after that I bought Civ3 gold edition and few months later C3C.

My dad brought home Civ 1 and said this is a game about the whole civilization. Being used to playing "digger" and "planes" I loved Civ from the first sight! What amazed me about the game the most is that I could move in every direction on the map. And the map was so big !

I went into PC world to buy Championship manager and was rather annoyed when it wasn't there, i'd withdrawn the money for the game and everything, so i thought to myself, well, i might as well buy something. I looked at the games on offer and saw Civ 3, bought it, and haven't stopped playing since! It was an accident because i hadn't heard of the game before that day and if Champ Man had been there, i may never have started playing it. I might then have got better grades, been fitter etc..... I don't regret it though-lol

I was at the mall looking for a few games (because the parents told me I could buy a couple), and I saw the old phaoah buried under a modern city cover of Civilization I. It piqued my interest, and along with an Indiana Jones game about Atlantis and a third game I cannot recall, it came home with me. The rest is wonderful history.

I don't know if this is unique,but I saw a preview on tv about civilization.
It was on a program called "Musikladen".They had a computer games corner
and showed 3 games each program.When they first introduced the games
corner it was with civilization (somewhere in 1991).So I was very fast convinced
that I must have this game.I was also the first game I ever bought.

believe it or not....i heard of Civilization in one of the most odd places......the Playstation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Civ 2 was ported to the PS, in the late 90's. i think i read the review on IGN at the time, and i thought to myself, why not. i loved strategy games, and turn based strat even more. so i got it, and i was hooked. i envied PC players from that point on, until i was able to get my own and i learned that Civ 3 was coming out too.

My best friend had the original Civ when we were in 8th grade or so, '93/'94. We used to play games of it while we were hanging out looking for other things to do. We usually just kept playing. I never got into Civ2, because my first computer couldn't handle it. By the time I got my second pc I was in college, where if we played anything it was Goldeneye, or AoE or Rainbow 6 over the LAN. I had the demo for Civ 3 when it was available, and played a borrowed copy once in a while, but never really had the time to devote to the game. Now that I'm out (until Sept, more degrees please ) I've bought vanilla for myself and have been enjoying it a lot. Rise of Nations has taken some interest away, but I have a feeling I'll be back big into Civ when the "new game" appeal goes away.

I liked to download demos off the internet and came across civ III. I downloaded the trial once a LONG time ago and went back to it a couple of months later with our new comp. Thats when i realized how cool it was and how strategic and stuff. and i didnt think rise of nations was all that great.... then again my computer is a piece of crap and hardly runs it

I first discovered the series thanks to my Sister's (now ex)husband. He was really into games like me, and told me I should try Civ2 on the playstation. I did, and to be honest, I hated it initially. There seemed to be too many stupid things to take care of, and I switched to a different game after a day or two. Later, when I was in between games again, I decided to give it another chance, and really tried to learn the game. i was quickly hooked. It was the type of game I would play nonstop for 2 months, and then not at all for six.

Then in December, I finally had a computer that was decent enough to play games on, and saw civ advertised for $10 at Circuit City. It didn't take long after that to find CFC, and also to buy Conquests. The rest, as they say, is history.
