When did you here about Civ?

My uncle had Civ II for his Playstation, and when I first played it I fell in love. Even though they did a crappy job when transferring it from PC to PSone. So I went out on gametz.com found a copy and bought it. I was surprised to find it though. Ever since I've been addicted. I think that was back in '99....... man five years of my life gone before my eyes.
 
It was in very early 90`. We were attending a computers lessons at err... lets say "free time house for the kids" (originaly named "International house of children and teenagers" ;) ) there was one IBM-PC platform computer. I saw CIV I on it and as a realy big guy, I played it most of the time, with others behind me. :satan: Other computers was some socilalistic clones of ZX :D Hey, it was hard to live in post-commi state! I made a copy and from 93` played it at home. My friend told me about CIVII and finally I saw CIV III at mall -> bouhgt it! Thats my civ history.
 
Allready read 'digger' somewhere. It wass at a friend's house and we were playing digger. Digger crashes.! Then we decided to give that new game a try. Civ1!!! Immediate succes, we played 16 hours straight on our first game and thought we owned the game. It turned out we played chieftain level ;)
 
best i remember i saw it in a store about 3 years ago. i bought it and tried it and it wouldnt run properly on my computer so i gave up on it. somewhere along the way i either lost or threw away the disk or something. then a couple months ago my brother bought it and loved it. i decided to buy one cheap on amazon and try it again figuring since i had replaced my graphics card in that time who knows it might actually work. and it did.

im a long time fan of civ II. ive played that one to death and gotten so good at it in my many many games that about all i can really do with it anymore is scheme on new strategies to win the games in earlier and earlier years. but civ III is different. the ai plays a far better game. add to that the deity level on III is tremendously difficult compared to II. i must say im rather impressed with it. i know we could have a long thread on "ai stupidities" or something but as games go i really think the developers did a tremendous job on it. the best part of it is there are no really serious exploits to ruin the spirit of the game.
 
Wow. I remember playing Civ on my old Amiga 500 yeeeeears ago. My stepdad brought it home one day and ever since, I've been like a crack addict where Civ is my crack. :crazyeye:

I had been playing Age of Empires. My wife and my daughter thought that Civ was an add on to AoE and gave it to me for Father's Day. They have regretted it ever since.

"Who's that guy in the corner covered with cobwebs?"
"Oh, that's my Dad. We gave him a computer game for Father's Day two years ago and he hasn't moved from that chair."
 
i first played it when a friend of mine got it from his older brother, who at that time worked at a pc company.

it was great fun, we played it alot. i remember it had a fun copy protection, it would ask you a historical question at start up, all answers were in the manual. now we didnt have the manual... so we got some good education from learning the answers the hard way. hahaha

since then, ive played civ on and off. the first copy i actually owned myself was when i bought civ2 the day it came out. :D
 
I discovered civ 1 the same time I discovered the drug "crank". Not a good combonation. I stay up all night all day all the time playing it.

I haven't touched crank in years. I still occasionally stay up all night playing civ though.

I'm hooked on the civ drug for life I think.
 
There's about a dozen of these threads down in the history I bet.

I was introduced to Civ2 by a co-worker about 8 years ago. I still play action and real-time strat games, but nothing has the repeat-playability like C3.
 
I asked my dad for Age of Empires but it was out of stock so a guy in the store recommend him to buy Civ II. I was pissed when he gave me civ instead of age of empires but after a month a I became a civ addict!
 
I use to browse around the Internet (when I was in like 4th through 6th grades, which was about 3 to 5 years ago, I'm going into 9th grade) and read reviews for games (Gamespot was the best one, but it kind of sucks now). I heard that Age of Empires (which I had) was represented as a cross between Civilization and...Command and Conquer was it? I don't remember. But I read the reviews, but there werre other games I wanted (Starcraft, Age of Empires II, Descent 3, Jedi Knight, etc.) but then one time, after I was ised ot playing computer games all the time and I could just get all teh great releases, I had a hard time decideing between Civilization III and Empire Earth, and of course bought this. That was about a year ago. I wasn't too hooked on it at first, but then I saw my dad get it and play it (computer programmer, this was hte first game he ever bought) and it rekindled my interest. Then I got Conquests for Christmas last year and I haven't been able to stop playing.
 
Got the first Civ-game on an old old computer I once had...think it was before the Pentium got big.... 386 or an 486 was it...it was on 4 disc if I remember correctly got some time too install it then I've been hooked on it.
 
I got Civ 1 for my old 386 when it came out. It was one of the few games my pc could handle. I used to stay up all night playing that dang game...
 
in 1995 i bought CIV for the Super Nintendo after playing the computer version at a friends house. those were the days.
 
I played Civ2 with a friend who had the game. Civ3 just came out at the time so I got it instead. At first I didn't understand why my cities were in disorder and that type of thing and it annoyed me, but then I caught on. I originally wanted to play a bunch of scenarios for Civ3 so I went to CivFanatics. Then I looked at other stuff, bought C3C, then felt like a real CivFanatic. The friend also has C3C and reads CFC but hasn't joined yet.
