when installing says i need to install directx

I have a problem I havent read yet, someone please tell me if they have had the same issue and if they have solved it. I am still trying to install civ4.

It keeps telling me that setup has determined that you need to install directX.

Im am running an amd 64 3500+ , nvideo geforce 6600, 2x 512 mb ram and have directx9.0c installed. ive ran dxdiag and everything checks out fine. any suggestions? i have attached my dxdiag file for reference.

It's a different version of 9c than what is available through Windows Update, this is normal behavior, install it and enjoy the game.

i dont understand what you mean. I updated off of microsofts web site today, is there another one i should find?

When you install Civ4 it will prompt you to install DX, let it do so. No need to find it somewhere, it comes with the game.

unfortunantly i bought the game from direct2drive, which they authorize to sell over the internet without having to run to the store. i used them in the past and the software has worked fine, but they only send the main installation file, not everything you would get from a boxed version.

there is no file in the software that i have received. is there any way someone can post that file for their version of directx?

So you're saying that during the installation you don't get prompted to install DX? I haven't seen this issue from other direct2drive users yet.

You could also download the missing files from eg. here: http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/d3dx_dlls.html
(You need the June and August updates I believe)

snepp, it never gace me an option. as soon as i hit install it said i was missing directx and made me quit. they only gave me the one file.
