When is a Marine not a Marine?

Answer: When it is in an army.

Last night, I created an army that contained nothing but Marines (I thought this would make a cool invasion force), but, lo and behold, when I first tried an amphibious assault with it, the computer told me that only Marines can invade! I am left with one useless army.

Has anyone else run across this? Is it a bug, or a design decision?

I had the same idea a few months back and tried the same thing with the same results. Never followed up on it though.

I still like the idea of an army of marines.

Ah, the wondrous army concept! How ingenious! How deeply strategical...

(If at least Firaxis had implemented it properly... Never mind. The XP may solve all these issues... or not.)

Once I built 3 marine armies, being a military genius I was sure that my enemy had no chance against such an invasion force. Poor me. D-Day came and I have seen that my armies of marines are nothing but cowards. I sent them all to suicide missions (that's the idea for being a marine eh?).
