Hall of famers, please advise me.

I normally play on standard maps and my current level of play is Monarch and I only play the game for fun. But I desided to try one huge map to see what maximum score I could achieve before moving up levels. Unfortunately I play PTW unpatched so I could not enter my final score even if it proves worthy but I wish to finish the game as best as possible and would like some more detailed tips.

My current situation is as follows:
Map type: Huge pangaea
AI: 8 random
Level: Monarch
Civ: Ottomans
Year: 1370
Score: 5641
Current Score per turn: 70Points
Reserching: Refinery (? the tech for oil)

I have completed the expansion phase, and have warred my way to where I beleive I must be very near to the domination limit. I have all 8 luxuries hooked up and with micromanagement 95% of my people are happy. My two core production areas are fully developed with factories, hospitals etc, and now are only pumping out millitary units every few turns. I have a very strong military and the AI have little chance. My current goverment is still monarchy but I have the option of all goverments if required. Approximately 90% of my land has been railroaded and highly corrupt areas are fully irrigated. I have switched my corrupt cities from building settlers to start viaducts and marketplaces ready for the milking phase.

From reading this forum I understand the normal play is to eradicate all AI except one remote tundra city. But I read (from Superslug's post) about abandoning and resettling (nearly 100 per turn!!!). Could someone explain in more detail what exactly is he doing and why, Which goverment type is the prefered during the milking phase. Should i drop my reserch to a minimum and use the gold to rush corrupt cities infrastructure to maximise population now or later.

So please, any advise would be helpful.

One more question. Why is PTW unpatched not eligable for the HoF? Do I have some major advantage/disadvantage with the version I play?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, sounds like your not sure of your territory levels, first tip: Mapstat :)

It is to ensure that the 66% of the world you occupy during the milk phase is the best food producing terrain there is.

Government type, probably Democracy for the milkk phase. If you were religous you might consider switching to Monarchy after the rushbuild is complete to get the happiness from Military Police where necessary.

I would continue to research, but only very slowly until marketplaces and aquaducts were everywhere - far more important to get those built than research when there is no opposition left.

I think its mainly to make the process of checking games easier. Aeson would have to have every version of Civ, PTW and Conquests at the ready if there wasnt standardization on versions allowed.

There are also some major advantages/disadvanteages. For example, in Vanilla Civ the Huge map size was much bigger than in the patched versions, therfore allowing for bigger scores, IIRC you were more likely to get huge, huge swathes of grassland at the top and bottom of panagea maps as well.

I'm rather alone in my mass abandonment and resettling of cities, so don't put too much attention to it. Most players just make sure they've snagged all the good terrain on the map (grasslands, rivers, flood plains) and then scratch off towns on tundra, mountains, etc until they're back under the Domination limit.

In regards to other milking tips, I build aqueducts (if needed), marketplaces and hospitals (harbors if applicable) in that order and usually not much else.

Do you not go for Mass Transits in the big cities 'slug?

I haven't in the past, but I'm planning too in my current game.

Fret, thanks for the answers.

What exactly is this "mapstat" and what does it do? I can not find any reference to it in the forums.

The abandoning and resettling of cities for increased pop was quite obvious when you think about it. It was probably that superslugs volume of resettling made me think I had overlooked a tactic.

I can now understand why only certain versions are allowed. It is a shame as I seem to be progressing quite nicely. But I will see it through to the end to have an idea of my potential. I do not think that I will do another milking game for a while....moving all those workers makes the turns painfully long.

It'll tell you how many tiles you are under the Domination limit. That way you can get as close as 1 tile under so you can maximize score without triggering Domination victory. The latest Dianthus version of MapStat also tells you terrian count breakdowns, where pollution is, etc.

Thanks for the advice for the "mapstat" utility. It is an a very helpful tool. I was at 61% territory and was able to continue to expand. I was disapointed to find out my donimation limit was only 3750 tiles. :(

I guess it was too much to expect that I could get a suitable map with just a few manual starts. However, I have invested so much time in this game that I will finish to see what I can do.

I am currently at 1460AD, 7002 points at 85 points a turn. I am also well into the improvement of all my corrupt cities to maximise population and happy citizens. Does anyone have an estimate of how big my score could be?

Anyway thanks for the tips guys.

In my Monarch try, I was at 6629 by 1500 AD and rising at 87 points per turn on a world with a domination limit of 3727. That game finished with a final score of 27,288 so your potential should be something over 28,000.
