I've searched but alas not found a startup-strategies thread, while it must already be here somewhere? Can someone please tell me where to find it or al lot of them?
Colonel is right, the War Academy is the best place to start. However, he gave the long link - try this one. More specifically, try this, this, and this. Hope they help you, and welcome to CFC!
Also, try going to the Succesion game forum and follow some games there. Best way too learn. Try finding 'Training' games (threads with Training in the title) for intermediate level tips, or follow the deity/sid games for expert advice.
I tried the settler factory whose concept was explained in the war academy....and it works! For the first time since playing chieftain (now I'm playing as regent) I came out as the top of my continent. It's now two-thirds Orange (I'm ruling the Dutch) and the Aztecs to the North and the Egyptians to the south TOGETHER have the same number of settlements I have. Perfect! Finally a game where I'm not the underdog who is in constant danger of being overrun. Now I can have some decent wars with more than 3 to 5 swordsmen in the offensive.[dance]
If this works well I think next time I'll play at monarch-level. Thanks for the tip guys, I was almost thru playing this game but now it's a lot more fun, since as I said now I can perform some decent strategies in this game.
