Where to put email and SMTP info?

I started up a PBEM game last night just to see if Civ4 handles emailing duties. At first glance it didn't look like it because there is no interface for entering email addresses of all the players. Oddly enough, when I ENDed the first turn it saved the game and I got a pop-up saying something about how Civ4 can email the saved game if I put my email and SMTP info in. I looked everywhere and didn't see any place to do so...

Anybody figure this out yet? Does Civ4 handle emailing or is it still a manual affair?

When you first create a new PBEM game, click the icons to the right of the player's name. This is the where you can change the player details including smtp and email address.

Another thing that is confusing is the box that pops up after you finish your first game. There are four boxes. The first have your email address and smtp information. The last two are unlabled but are for your username and login if your email requires you to do so.

I have so far been unsuccessful in getting this to work with Yahoo or Gmail. If anyone has a way to make this work I'd be very appreciative.

Yeah, I found that button last night but I think you meant to say it's to the "left" of the player name rather than "right".

Anyway, once you click that you can set the email options for the player. It doesn't make much sense to allow SMTP for each player since you're most likely onyl going to use your own!

As for Yahoo and Gmail, do they actually allow access to their SMTP servers? Did you try using your ISP's SMTP server? I'll try it tonight when I get home from work.

You can set up an email client like Outlook to send and receive Yahoo and Gmail. They give you their smtp to do this. So smtp.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.gmail.com should work. And it does give you a spot when sending the mail in Civ4 to enter in username and password but its a no go. Let me know if it works on your ISPs email account. I haven't set that up yet since I use my web based email accounts for everything.
