personaly think it's mainly the industrial-->modern about the only difference is nukes, everything else is just a beefed up industrial age unit

when i say stuff like ancient-->middle-->industrial, i mean both the industrial and middle ages are extensions of the ancient age

Aren't all the other ages extensions of the ancient age?

The two ages that I feel overlap the most is middle and industrial as I always feel I have reached the industrial age when I can build cavalry...

The only difference between the modern and indstrial age is that I never end the Modern age.

I must confess I don't really understand the question ... ?

what i mean is which age plays and feels almost exactly (or at ;east close enough) to another age.in terms of stragey and tactics, not much changes from industrial to modern

I find the industrial and modern to have very different feels. During the industrial age war is slow and defensive. Infantry and arty are the rulers till the tail end when tanks and planes become available (although you can get them faster in the newest patch). During the modern age the pace is much faster with more of an emphasis on offense.

I agree that not much changes militarily at the Industrial/Modern break, but it comes just after a couple major paradigm shifts - Tanks and Bombers, either unit changes the face of war.

It's much the same at the Ancient/Medieval break, BTW - Med Inf/Pike/Trebuchet plays much the same as Swordsman/Spear/Catapult, but then the Knight turns up a bit later.

Moral - the military revolutions in the game do not coincide with era changes.

It seems to be true that the shifts usually occur around halfway through an age. Warriors -> Swordsmen -> Knights -> Cavalry -> Tanks -> Modern tanks.
