Well we were debating this and I wondered how voting would split on it.

The movie version- spiderman's webs are biological, part of his transformation after the spider bite.

The original comic book version- Peter Parker is a science whiz, who after getting all the other spider powers, decides to build mechanical web shooters and fill them with web fluid. Or maybe he did that first and then got bit by a radioactive spider :crazeye:

No need to reassert which story I think makes more sense.

Invention. It's in the comic books, as well as in the cartoons. It just doesn't make any sense (sorry!) for the web orifices to be in the wrists, when a spider makes it from its rear end.

BTW, I saw a Spiderman cartoon one lazy Saturday afternoon where he recounts the events that happened shortly after seeing the movie. It was amazingly similar, down to the cinematography of the murderer running down the hall, and Peter saying "I forgot the part where that was my problem" or somesuch.

I think the gene-mutated spider is just the modern version of "traditional" technology so it kind of fits.

I must confess I voted for the last option. Sorry. :D

So did I! :D

I haven't seen the movie and never read many comics but uhhh, the movie version sounds better.

Yup, last option Sultan. :p

Although I'll pretend I voted for the, uh, first one if it'll make you feel better...

Movie.

Invention.

I understand that for the movie, it made sense for the sake of expediancy. But in the comics, I always enjoyed Spidey worrying about running out of web-fluid, or the web-shooters clogging, or whatever. It made it more real, and kept him from being too "spidery". I also felt that it was important not to forget his scientific background, and the omnipresent, wonderful web-shooters always reminded the reader that Pete was a science guy. After all, it was his love for science that led him to become Spider-Man.

Invention. It makes a better rainy-day activity for kids than drinking Draino.

I don't know, but I think Mary Jane is rather ugly in the movie.

She looks like an alcoholic.

I tell you what, I didn't like Kirsten Dunst very much until Spiderman. I can see what you mean about the sleepy eyes looking drunk, but I think they made the right choice.

I demand the quick appearance of the Black Cat in the next one though...

Considering the original actress for Mary Jane was Kate hudson, Im happy as a pig in slop with Kirsten Dunst

Eh, I think it makes more sense as having them with his powers, as explained by Sultan in the other thread...

Ah, once again, the ever-present geek-dilemma of whether to debate the technical aspects, or the chicks in a comic book. :)

Just to contribute to the thread-jacking, I liked Dunst as a red-head. I like redheads.

I should be glad, Imagine Kirsty Alley (as in Victoria's Closet) as MJ!

I think I would be ill.

I don't think the webs could handle the weight, regardless of whether they're biological or synthetic.

(how did you like that tie-in to keep it on-topic?) :goodjob:

I voted with Toasty. You're malingering Sultan!

Having said that, I'll point out that I heard an interview with Stan the man on KPBS' Fresh Air, and he said that at first, he argued fiercely for his original idea, i.e. the webs were Pete's invention. They even tried to write it into the script. The problem was, it slowed down the pace of the movie and became this long digression. So, in the end, even Stan Lee had to agree, at least in the MOVIE version, it was better that Spiderman's web powers were organic.

Now that you know that little piece of trivia Sultan: Back in the trenches!! :D
