SP, no doubt about it. With the presumably improved AI, SP will hopefully be challenging enough, especially for a Regent player like me.

As with any MP game, you can't really expect to win playing casually... You gotta learn the ropes of online play, and after many games (many losses), you become a stronger player. Indeed, there's no way around it.

I agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, due to my encroaching senescence, I no longer feel the urge to squander untold amounts of time mastering the intricacies of a particular game. I may play the occassional "casual" MP game, if such a thing can be found.

Mp is where the action is at. Most people are sheep tho so it does not surprise me that most prefer sp.

Ah, well spoken! For verily it takes a real man to play multiplayer computer games!

More single player, maybe a little multi but I doubt I will get into it. Fact is, it's just more fun to play against some opponents that wait for when you have time to play them, and have goals other than to destroy everyone. The only time I will probably multi play is with my friend who is just as obsessed as I am.

I like the huge map, large empire building games my self. But with all the hoopla about this new multi-player system I might just give it a shot. See if it really is all it's been hyped to be.

And we can always play 18 player Epic multi games.

I have always played SP with Civ

I dunoo its a tough call. I realy like going for those long stratigic fights with the AI, but all this talk about mazing MP cababilities is worth the shot :)

Single Player, as that is where long Civ history comes from.

But, I'll try MP a few times and I m hoping it's like a board game only better. If this is the case I might truly start to love it.

SP all the way. My internet connection is too slow for MP.

Interesting and all this time I thought my wife was a woman :p
(She plays more MP games than I do...guess she has a larger tolerance for Internet "asshats")

I'll play a few games with my friend on the LAN, probs with some AIs. Probably on the world map so we can fix the starting locations to give him an advantage (unless there is another way of doing handicapping).

I'm more of an epic gamer. I love those huge maps, and lots of opponents. I would play PBEM, but I can't as I am away form home many months at a time without any access to a PC capable of playing games...

I might try seeing if I can get a few people to play Epic games over the uni holidays, split up over several nights.

We'll see - I doubt however I'll be playing online with the "public" much, only with peeps from CFC, and people I know.

A SP game can be started and stopped when you want.
A SP game let you play at your pace, without being worried about taking too long to play.
A SP game let you play calmly, without the stress of playing against someone.
In MP game, I've componction about being mean to a player-controlled civ. Anyway, I prefer to be allied with the human than enemy.
In MP, there is less "roleplaying", as you're playing with/against a person who knows the rules of the game, and have more tendencies to use all the trick rather than to act like a faction leader.

For all these reasons, I'll play MUCH, MUCH more SP than MP.

Singleplayer to catch the flow of the game.

It can be satisfactory to defeat a computer opponent, but it is even better to defeat a human player while you see his messages "you $%^& im gonna get you for $%^&" pass over the screen while your units poor into his cities... muhahah

With the quick game options multiplayer will be even more accessible as that was the drawback of Civ3, it could go on for a loooong time.

SP for the huge majority of my playing.

Even if they have imporved the MP game alot my normal games take at the least 2 or 3 days to complete due to my unhealthy obsession with micromanaging every aspect that i can in a turn!!

Friends I have played Civ3 with always gave up because in a game with 3 human players (who all micromanage!!) there could be more than 30 minutes between turns!

PBEM has never been an option as it feels like it would quadruple the time taken to play IMO.

MP I'll prob only try on LAN when we have 12 hours or more to kill and play some small map 'Quick Kill' games.

Apart from that It will just be me, my PC, a large pot of coffee and the biggest SP map it can throw at me!! Filled with AI on random personalities and all the games trimmings so I can try out the new features and see what I like/dont like! :)

More SP, never liked MP.
