While Rome Burns, Nero Goes For A Nice Relaxing Fishing Trip At His Ranch

Except that he doesn't usually even do work when he is there.

Pure speculation. How can you say the President doesn't work in Crawford?

Is that better for you ?????

You seem to be more upset that the candidate that you would want to win (Gore) didn't, not the actual means of how that person was legally elected.

As the majority did not choose him the system is not a democracy. Bush was not chosen by his people to rule and so is a dictator.

After reading a few studies on ex-Presidents over the years I can safely say that whatever the media says about him now is not even close to the truth. I am sure he does everything as President at his ranch as he would do if he was in the White House. It may not be great for his public relations it that's another issue entirely. Anyway it is nice to see him taking an interest in wildlife conservation.

!!! Where was he all this time then? Drinking champagne in Bruxelles with the EU? ;)

Among other places ;)
He likes particularly a french wine called Romané-Comti, sold at U$20,000 a bottle.(I have no problem with the way he spends his money, I just don't want to hear him saying that the "burgeouis elite" spends its money stupidly after that)

Is the United Kingdom a democracy then, Elden, or is that an autocratic monarchy?

The Queen was not ellected. However as Queen has almost no power and is just a figurehead she doesn't matter. Since Blair was ellected by the majority and holds the real power he is not a dictator.

UK is thus technically a dictatorship (Queen) but in practice a democracy (Blair)

This is shameful action.

Luiz, I think I'd rather keep our dud (or as some would say: stud)

But the Prime Minister is appointed by the Queen, and the Queen selects the head of the leading party in the House of Commons. Under your extremely flawed logic, the United Kingdom is also a dictatorship.

Also under that logic, Kim Jong Il is less of a dictator than George Bush, because Kim recieves 100% of the vote each election.

Sounds like Lula quickly shed that working class background of his.

It is more likely that he does little work than the same amount of work as he usually does. Why do I say this? Why would he go on vacation to do the same amount of work when it would be more convenient to stay in the White House.

In the 2001 general election Tony Blair's Labour party won only 40.7% of the vote. In contrast 50% of the vote went to the two main opposition parties, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. So Mr Blair and his party is in no sense the majority. And with his attack on the second chamber one could easily say he is creating an elective dictatorship.

50% to two parties. How much did they get each? Unless one of them got 40.8% or more Labour still has the majority.

No, it has the plurality. There is a difference.

I thought parliamentary governments had to form coalitions to get a majority? Or is that just a plurality? ;)

Anyway, Britain may be discussed in a thread not about the President's leisure activities.

Because total vote doesn't matter. It is the number of seats you win and Labour won 412 (out of 659). It's the nice little quirk of the British electoral system.

Err...what if he discusses the complexities of the British Parliamentary system when he's fishing?

Somehow I would doubt Bush is commenting on the finer points of British politics while showing the environmental people a crocodile or something. Just seems really out of place.

You never know what people get up to when no one is looking.

You're right. I mean, Clinton sure had fun when the cameras were off.

Makes me wonder about the New York state government.....too shadowy, something must be going on!

Funny

My reaction exactly.

My reaction was to your thread title. And it was sarcastic BTW. Would you rather that he be on the front line fighting with our troops? I notice clinton did nothing if the sort. While he also launched 3 wars during his time as president. Not to mention launching cruise missles several times. Never on the front line there.  And so far as I am aware never going over to those places after bombing them back to 1000BC. Bush at least went over to Iraq.
