I am running Civ IV on my Mac laptop with bootcamp... so essentially a Windows XP machine. I have a pretty small partition.. 10 gb. And it was giving me messages that my drive was full, so I deleted some files... silly me. I never play Vanilla or Warlords so I deleted them and BtS would no longer play.

So then I went to the DVD and tried to reinstall but it says I don't have enough free space. I deleted all the Civ files I could find... but the unistall will no longer work since I did a manual delete. I forgot how much I hate PCs.

I have 3.8 gig free... which should be enough, but it won't work.

This is a Civ IV complete DVD.

Any help? Are there hidden files to delete? I did a search for civ meier firaxis... but I can't find anything.

Thanks!

I'm about ready to just reinstall windows and start over.

Can you uninstall them in add/remove programs? You will probably have to uninstall Civ 4, Warlords and Beyond the Sword in order to be able to install and get it to work again. There is a manual uninstall, but if you can get it with add/remove that is simpler.

I tried to run the uninstall, but because I already deleted many of the files, it just gives me an error an quits.

My big question is how much room do I need? The website said under 2 gigs. So I can't figure out what the issue is.

My Civ 4 folder (with Warlords and BTS) is a bit over 3.5GB, but I would guess it would also need some space for temporary files.

The manual uninstall process is a follows, some stuff you will already have deleted. Unistall BTS aswell before trying to install the others, if you can use add/remove to do so before you start this manual process.

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).

These are the instructions for the individual discs, but hopefully will be close enough to let find the folders and allow you to do the job.

Thank you. I deleted all of them. Now we'll see what happens!!!

So I did that... cleared up disk space... now I get "Feature transfer error"

Feature: DefaultFeature
Component: Civ4Component
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I love windows. Does this mean that there are files somewhere I haven't deleted?!

That usually means that the disc is damaged/dirty.

Try gently cleaning it and try installing again.

If you have another drive on your mac try installing from that.

If that doesn't work try copying the disc onto the hard drive and install from there.

If you still can't install, try copying the disc onto another computer and copy the files across to your hard drive and again try installing from there.

Unfortunately it often means the disc needs to be replaced.

Wow... so far so good... I'm up to 4 bars. I remember thinking that the disk was dirty when I took it out... but after my other problems, I didn't think of that! Thank you! Cross fingers...
