Why does tea provide so much production?

6 production on one tile with a herbalist is a lot right at the start of the game. I checked the wiki and this is intentional. Can I ask why it provides so much production, both base and with a plantation?

Why, my good chap, tea and crumpets sparked the Industrial Revolution in God's greatest empire!:hatsoff:

I agree it would be more understandable if coffee had the production.

Though science also fit with the coffee. I guess the science for coffee is a little too informed by modern day researching and learning late into the night or just with a stimulant boost.

In total I think it's fine as it, it's probably mostly for balance reasons. If we are to change anything, I think production should go for coffee and tobacco and tea should gain culture or science, not production. Wasn't it mostly Chinese intellectual elite drink for most of recorder history?

This. I assume it's in some way related to the increased productivity associated with caffeine intake. The history of the coffee break is actually surprisingly interesting.

Some prefer tea as a means of getting their caffeine fix.
