Will Durant is a fairly well-known name among educated peoples, but until today I had never read any of his books. His "Story of Civilization" series seems like the work of a great scholar. What I am wondering is how acurate are his works? And if he was such a great scholar/writer, how come the younger generation never hears of him? (I didn't know who he was until a few years ago.)

Durant is a old style writer, his work is detailed and exact and somewhat "dry"
. He would not be politically correct today for his racial and blood-line commentary. It is worth reading.

Winston Churchill is a better known writer (for other reasons), and also
has produced unique historical works, ie. History of the English speaking Peoples, and of course histories of both World wars. Churchill's histories
should be taken with a grain of salt (like any first hand account). His
writing is worth reading and highly entertaining as well
