Is it possible to control the camera via the mouse when you're in window mode? When I play in window mode, I can't just move the mouse to the edges of the screen to scroll, but is there somewhere where I can change that? Thanks

Yes, there is a way. First off: welcome to CFC! :)

Here's the steps:

1. Navigate to your Civ4 user folder (.../My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/).

2. Open CivilizationIV.ini (in Notepad).

3. Scroll down to the line that says:
"; Allow Mouse Scrolling in Windowed mode
MouseScrolling = 0"

4. Change the 0 to a 1.

That's it! Have fun.

How handy! Thanks!

Why would you want to play in windowed mode? Doesn't it slow the game down (framerate and stuff)?

I can't speak for the origional poster, but windowed mode is very useful when you want to be able to use the internet or respond to instant messages quickly.

Instead of having to minimize the game, you can just reach down with the mouse and open a program up over it.

I play nearly exclusively in windowed mode and have never noticed any slowdown.
I find it great for taking notes as well as the stuff mentioned above.

Windowed mode is incredibly better. Especially when you are playing and need to alt-tab to something else...

It is slower, but I actually find the movies play better in windowed mode. In full-screen, sometimes the title movie doesn't play at all.

I play exclusively in windowed mode myself. When a new IM comes in it has the nasty habit of grabbing focus, which tends to screw up my games. Now if only I could get C&C Generals and Starfleet Command to play in Windowed mode, my life would be almost perfect :D

Sorry to bump an old thread but I've searched the CivilizationIV.ini file and I don't have the option, ; Allow Mouse Scrolling in Windowed Mode isn't there.

Windowed mode would make it a lot easier for me to play the game but I can't play it without mouse scrolling. Am I looking in the right place for it ?

Windowed mode has barely lower frame rates. But AI turn times are slower.
Window mode just needs more ram and a higher resolution.

On a slow machine with lots of ram you can watch a movie while waiting for a turn to end, not a whole movie but it is better than just waiting for the next turn.
