So...my copy of Civ 4 has been relegated to coaster status.
I have been fine since purchasing the game at X-mas, the movies would chug, and the turns would get ugly later in the game, but it's CIV? It's supposed to do that. They almost always screw up the movies for the wonders in every version, and their programming is always so sloppy that the game chugs when it's "thinking".
Today, I'm playing a scenario, I build the Parthenon for the first time, and my system hangs. After hanging, the entire program dumps me back to my desktop and tells me I don't have enough virtual memory allocated for my video drivers blah blah blah.
Then...my system crashes everytime I build the wonder after loading that saved game.
Firaxis needs to be strung up for this. The fact that they were so short-sighted/dim-witted that it never occured to them to test this...it's beyond me. It's not like this movie bug is affecting a small portion of the people playing the game. It's affecting a significant portion and by the looks of the boards, it's a complete mess.
I tried to find the "movie config line in the civ.ini" file or whatever, but failed miserably.
Know why? Because I'm not a programmer. The fact that I need to go into the coding and "un-****" a computer game is ridiculous. Where is the support for this?
Where is the simple patch that involves adding an option that allows you to simply kill the wonder movies???
I'm sure that some people will think I need to calm down. That I need to relax because it's "just" a game.
It's $50 that I spent on a computer game. I don't think it's too much to ask that the game works. I don't think it's too much to ask that I shouldn't have to change the code of a game just so it will run on my computer.
I run a number of resource-hog games on my system. It's not my system. It's the bloody game. It's sloppy programming, and sub-par customer support.
So...yeah...that's my rant.
There seems to be NO word on this from Firaxis. They're just pumping out ****, and as long as people keep buying it, what do they care? It seems their brilliant patch only made things worse.
So...maybe someone involved with the programming and the FIXING of this game might read this. I doubt it, but maybe.
I'll give it a week.
If I don't get a solution regarding this nonsense, then I will be taking steps to get my money back. It's not an issue affecting only me. It's an issue affecting a number of people, with a potentially simple solution and the "powers that be" don't seem to care enough to actually correct it.
