First of all, I would like to credit the existence of this thread to Quintillus' Greek World Conquest, which inspired me to make this thread. Here's the link to it:

I have uploaded the file (hope it works, 1st upload!)

I modified some stuff, like govts are a bit altered, very low corruption, units altered (especially bombard strength), some can be drafted, culture flipping is altered, spy missions as well, and retain culture on capture is on. I may have forgotten some stuff, and if I mention anything abnormal in my posts, just go with the flow.

EDIT:The link has been altered to link to the new and improved version of the map.

NOTE: I may take awhile between posts, so sorry if the suspense is too great:) .

My civ preference would be the chinese, but you people can decide for yourselves who I should be.

Surely if you remember his conquests, you may be able to remember mine way back when. Sure the idea sounds awesome at first, but you get into it, and you may find yourself waiting 7 minutes for your turn to be up.

Or the ottomans...So what happens if it doesnt work? Make another poll with these 3?

With the Vikings you have an early Marine unit, which can help with beachheads, invasions and pillaging raids. It is most effective on maps with a lot of coastline.

The Sipahi is a stronger Cavalry, attacking with 8 instead of 6 and costing 100 instead of 80 shields.

The Ansar Warrior is a modified Knight. It has the same movement as Cavalry (3 MP), but is slightly more fragile than the standard Knight, since it defends with 2 instead of 3. The AW costs 70 shields; the standard Knight costs 60 shields.

Knights come with Chivalry, an early Middle Age tech; Cavalry comes with Military Tradition, a late Middle Age tech. Both are optional techs, too.

I would favor the Arabs. I think that AWs upgrade to Cavalry. So you could consider them Light Cavalry, since they attack with 4. This would allow you to dominate the entire Middle Ages, not just the last part of it. A unit that can move three times and attack is quite handy to have.

Just to add one small wrinkle to Cbob's fine analysis: There's also the Chinese Rider to consider. A 70-shield, 4.3.3 Knight replacement that upgrades to Cavalry. Yes, it comes with an early, optional MA tech (Chivalry), but it's frequently the first 3-move unit on the ground. It's worth considering, at any rate.

Bob, knights are 70 sheilds. Answar are 60, so they're faster and cheaper.

I voted Vikings, I want to see pillaging.
