Does anyone here use XFire? It's a free IM type program that allows you to find what games (and on what server) the people you've added to your buddy list is playing. It also keeps track of scores, etc. for the differant games. It's fairly interesting, and likely very useful if you have a good number of friends that play games constantly.

Another nice little bonus is the ability to find out (and download) new patches/update/content for the games you have installed. Imagine gamespy arcade in a much more compacted form.

I installed it recently so that it would automatically dowload the BF2 demo as soon as it was released. That function never came in use though, I was quicker myself. I still have it installed but will most likely never use it.

I prefer Gamespy. If XFire keep track of scores that might be a reason to check it out more properly.

Yep use it all the time. It's really convinient that you can join the server where your friends are playing and their teamspeak server in one mouse click.

Especially with the BF2 demo, since the internal server browser in that game sucks.

Now that sounds cool! Does Xfire query their IP then or how does it know the address of the TS server?

Does Xfire support the demo? Interesting. I found it kind of strange that the game suggests you install GameSpy, even though GameSpy doesn't support the demo.

Hi, my name is Simon and this is 2010, here is my act of ULTIMATE NECRO THREAD!

But I just downloaded xfire 'cause I was curious. Anyone else here?

My username is rubrumm (yeah, two m's). Will you post your usernames?

What is it for exactly? As far as I know, it does screenshots, IM, and hours-played tracking...

Its really kind of like an inferior version of Steam.

i hate steam/xfire which try and create another obstacle between you and the game (thats how it feels).

How? I'm sorry but.. how the hell does it get in your way?

I let X-Fire start up when I log in and it runs idly in the taskbar until I shut down my computer. Never ever has a chance to get in my way.

take up room on my computer, another "sign in password" to think about.

LEMMA JUST PLAY MA GAME! :D

It can do that all automatically, it only takes up a couple hundred megabytes (approximately, I had to subtract well over 1 gigabyte from the screenshot folder), and you don't need it to launch the game (unlike Steam).

I use F11 for some reason that I no longer remember (possibly due to some games having F12 as the screenshot button and not wanting to take two pictures of the same thing).

One of the keys in the 'middle' of the keyboard might work, or P and just make sure you change the game's setting for whatever is bound to P (iirc in HL2 deathmatch/mods that is or was a suicide button).

Something easy to memorize and find is ideal so you don't miss the opportunity.
