I didn't ask about taking a capital or the reasons, or when to do it. I asked how many times a capital could be taken before the computer stops generating capitals. I thought the question was pretty clear. The dilemma I stated was that once I would take a capital several times, the computer would not create another one, making it very difficult to split an empire or stop a spaceship. So.....with that said, ---How many times can a capital be taken before no more are created???

I've found a limit to this in CivII. Of sorts. However I admit I've never pushed it to the limit in CivI.

The answer for CivII seems to be that the AI stops instantly regenerating capitals when it runs out of cities on the same landmass as the original capital. You keep getting the "Transylvanian government escapes to Anytown" message, until it has to change landmasses when the capital becomes NONE. However it may still try and build another palace elsewhere in due course, so it doesn't ever seem to give up completely. You just don't get instant regenerations.

I'll need to experiment on an old save game to see it this happens on CivI as well.

I can't remember ever seeing an AI civ create a new palace. It could just be due to the fact that my invasions are usually 5 turns from start to finish... hehe

One game of civ2 on world.mp when I was the Celts and playing defensively (to give computer a chance -which the carthiginians took, making for my 2nd best game EVER) whilst on diety level I had to take no less than 15 capitals...they kept on rebuilding as each fell. The defense and sheer number of cities added to their amazing production meant I could not stop that! The carthiginian empire was most of asia and ALL of africa and had at least 3 mech infs each...the african cities were all maxed out (yeah amazing! only seen this once...and is was only early 20th century) and had tonnes of cruise missiles (my fleets were non-existant).

So, no limit

My best game ever was with France on world.mp...
