That's impressive. When were you first sure the audacious attack was going to be succesful?

well, I was playing against a beginner. So I just bit my lip and went for it! I've always wanted to make my own "immortal game", so... here it is.

I apologize for the technical errors, I wanted to edit my post and did it a bit too well... So let's try again!
Nice game! :goodjob:
I have realized that none of my games are immortal, and I have very few game-scores left. I tried to reconstruct a very nice game I played in 1985(!) but something seems to have slipped my memory so here is a place-holder, from a rapid tournament (1 hour each for the whole game) in, I think, 1997. I haven't analyzed it thoroughly, so I don't know if everything was correct. I think we both could have played better at certain points, so some input would be well come.
NN - luceafarul, Bucuresti 1997(?)
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.Nf3 0-0 6.Be2 e5 7.0-0 Nc6 8.d5 Ne7 9.Ne1 Nd7 10.Be3 f5 11.f3 h6!? An idea from the very creative Kirgizian IGM Leonid Yurtaev, who introduced it against Korchnoi in Manila 1992] 12.Nd3 b6 13.b4 g5 14.c5 Nf6 15.cxd6 cxd6 16.b5 Qe8!? In the stem game, Yurtaev played 16...Ng6 which is probably better (he got a small advantage, but Korchnoi managed to save a half point). I just wanted to get my opponent out of the book. 17.Nb4 Qg6 18.Bd3!? I prefer 18.Nc6 which I think gives white a small advantage. Note that after 18...Nxc6 19.dxc6 fxe4 20.fxe4 Nxe4? is impossible because of 21.Qd5+ f4 19.Bf2 g4! 20.Kh1 g3 21.Bg1 gxh2 22.Bf2 22.Bxh2 Nh5 should be good for black. Qg5 23.Nc6 Ng6. I think black is good here. Perhaps white should have refrained from Nc6 and just pushed the a-pawn, but nevertheless I think I have good attacking chances. 24.a4 Nh5 25.Qe1?! Probably too slow. 25.a5 might be better, since 25...Nh4 is not to be feared, 26.Bxh4 Qxh4 27.Ne2. However black has a good attack after 25...Ng3+ 26.Bxg3 fxg3 with Nf4/Nh4 and Bh3 to come. Ng3+ 26.Bxg3 fxg3 27.a5 Nf4 28.Bc4 Bh3! 29.Ra2 Here and on the next move it is probably better to give up the exchange and play gxh3, even if that should be better for black. h5 30.Nd1 Bh6 31.Ne3 Bd7 With a clear advantage. 32.Qa1 bxa5 33.Rxa5?! 33.Nxa5!? ought to be tried. Nh3! Decisive. If now 34.gxh3 Qxe3 and I can't see any salvation for white e.g 35.Rxa7 g2+ 36.Kxg2 Qd2+37.Rf2 Bxh3 38.Kxh3 Qxf2 39.Rxa8 h1Q!+ and wins. 34.Nf5 Bxf5 35.exf5 Nf2+ is also trivial. 34.Rxa7 Qxe3 35.Rxa8 He is generous enough to let me mate him. If 35.gxh3 then Qd2 36.Rg1 hxg1Q+ 37.Qxg1 Be3! 38.Qxg3+ Kh8 39.Rxa8 Rxa8 and wins. Qg1+ 36.Rxg1 Nf2# :band: :yeah:
Not a masterpiece, but rather charming, or what? :smug:

I'll look at that later, I need to play it like a movie to really understand ;)

I was wondering, is it really plausible to expect playing styles to rub off? It certainly feels like it happens, but it might just be my wishful thinking.

I take that as a compliment! :thanx:

Yes it is possible and no I don't think it is wishful thinking. Didn't I tell you that one day you would wake up and find yourself a little master? :D
By the way,I apologize for not having had a closer look at your computer game with the two bishops but I just had a heavy schedule and needed to relax a bit with OT and some civ3 playing. I will post something in a couple of days.

By the laws of probability, this isn't my best game ever. It is however, my best game against the computer :D

luceafarul, I love those single friendly Rook blocks movement, Knight checkmates!

Sadly, I have never seen an oportunity to use it :(

Great game, luceafarul! Smothered mate...
:thanx: It is the only time I have been able to carry it out - what I liked with my game was that I was able to carry out quite a classical King's Indian attack. The mate was the icing of the cake!

I also like to hurry those artificial beasts when the result is a foregone conclusion...
The game was interesting, and you outwitted the beast in a tactical duel. :goodjob:

If you start playing openings like the King's Indian you will discover that there are many nice mates to be found. However you must also be prepared to lose rather horribly once in a while. I don't agree with what Petrosian once said, but it holds a ring of truth though: "I don't deserve to win this tournament since I haven't scored 80% against the King's Indian!"

I have played many beautiful games but this one was one of the very first, I played it at about age 12 against a 2350 rated player. :) I hope I didn't make any mistakes writing down the moves here because I did it directly from my mind.

Not really something special but it was one of my best games of those times.

That's a good game too.

I just played this today:

Certainly not my best game ever, but I just played it and it's the first I've ever recorded and was kind of interesting at the end. I think I should have lost, but it was a fast game. I'm not 100% sure on the first 9 moves, but they play out properly. i'm white.

this is Soviet posting at a friend's house

i'm rated about 1650 USCF, my best game would probably be when I drew someone rated 2208 or so in a tournament (2208 or 2218 I forget, i'll look it up), I was rated about 1530 at the time, I was up something like an exchange for a pawn I think, i'll find the score later, but I could have won it if I played right. best result, maybe not best game. A year ago, now I don't play much anymore. i'll post it later.

20 minutes before I left for work today, I thought to myself, why not a quick game of chess. Even if I get in a 10min game and it goes to the wire, which is pretty unlikely, I'll still be able to go to work on time. Anyway, it did happen, in one of the most interesting and exciting games I've played in a while. My opponent was skilled, and neither of us made any obvious major mistakes, at least not until the end when we were in time trouble; I had an opportunity to simply take his rook with my bishop and one opportunity to fork his king and rook with my bishop, but I was already up a fair bit by the end and was trying to make 1sec moves. The beginning was unusual in his response to my Sicilian and remained dynamic yet blocked for a while. We both (reasonably correctly, IMO) waited extraordinarily long to castle, as the center was so full and I think shows a good example of when to 'break a rule'. Though I didn't consider myself losing, I did feel vulnerable up until just before the second screen shot where I saw how I could win his bishop with a few moves and then was able to further annoy his pieces. This was also where it occurred to me to document the game, and I went and grabbed the first and second screens. Sadly, I missed many moves between screen 2 and 3 because I was rushing to play and because he left immediately after his loss, and there's no way to stay in game window and scroll to previous moves. Fortunately, those were mostly very quick moves to save time and were not that important, by and large. After the second screenshot we traded down to rooks and my bishop and then both gobbled a few pawns, etc. My discovered checkmate threat while threatening to promote was kind of a nice way to finish, too; I'm glad I missed the obvious bishop captures, one of which my opponent even mentioned.

As I say, I don't remember the moves well after screen 2, but I'm sure of these three moves:

33. Ng5 Qxg2
34. Rxg2 Re2
35. Rxe2 Rxe2

Then, as I mentioned, both sides mangle a few pawns but exchange no pieces, and this is the position before the move 55, which is the first visible on screen 3. Sorry I don't have a better program to show the position, all the pieces on ranks 1-3 are White (my opponent) and ranks 4-8 are Black (AKA mine).

Not that I've deluded myself to the point of thinking people are looking at these, but I like having a record. Here was an enjoyable game that was intensely tactical, with many constant threats and several moves where a piece(s) would be left enprise.
